Tests and Exams has been in place for almost a century if not past and though it serves its purpose as a form of measurement and good gauge of improvement, it does not really perform the task it should be implemented for at least this is what is argued by most people.

It is no news that when it come to schooling, some students are better at it than others, some students are quite good at learning and observing words more than others while the latter are seen as dullards and in some places seen as people with no future. But does it mean that this is true?

Albeit, some of the most influential and most financially successful people in the world are people with poor academic backgrounds, meaning in lay terms that "they didn't get good grades in high school", such as people in the likes of; Bill Gates, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, etcetera. And why is that?, the truth is, some people are just not cut of for academics and their standards and this does not mean that they are dullards or not intelligent. It is very important to not that education and academics are not the same thing.
Education is the process of gaining or granting an enlightening experience while academic relates to an education of theoretical interests. In a proper educational system, students are gain more insights on matters of their concerns not with words but with experimental and practical analysis.

Testing a child's performance through standardized tests has been argued to be wrong since lots of factors can easily influence test scores like: hunger, tiredness, stress, poor mental state from bad comments from teachers family dramas and the list goes on. Tests and Exams only measures a student's capacity to withhold information longer as it tests which student has short or long termed memory, what it does not show which student actually gained knowledge on the subject matter, if when out in the field to actually practice what is learned if that student can actually perform such task, not just by preparing for exams by reading and filling up words that was told or written.

Albeit, it can't be argued that standardized test has its perks, but it also has its downsides. below are some pros and cons of standardized tests.

PROS

  • Standardized tests provides a marginalized data for students. Testing students through grades has helped know where to place a child academically which helps keep track of ability so as to provide help when needed.

  • Test is a useful form of a teachers evaluation of their students.

  • High tests and Exam scores are good indicators that a particular college are up to standard.

  • Standardized testing provides good grading point for evaluation.

CONS

  • Standardized tests only measures the ability of a students brain to withhold information and does not measure students progress in subjects of matter.

  • Due to the presence of standardized tests, "teachers feel the need to teach to the tests". in some cases teachers/lecturers do not teach/lecture they just sends notes and set tests without impacting any form of knowledge to the students.

  • It is often seen by most that test scores determine the future of a student and that it shows a students true ability, which is wrong.

CONCLUSION

In my view the use of standardized tests should be eradicated because when it comes right down to it, Tests and Exams has not really helped anybody but I would like to know your thoughts in the comment section below.
