Welcome to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

This is one of the three Universities of Agriculture instituted by the Nigerian Federal Government. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, was established on the November 13th 1992, when about two Universities of Agriculture had been established in 1988 at Abeokuta (Ogun State) & in Makurdi (Benue State).
The major aim of establishing these institutions is to assist in the country in food production and supply.

The statue as seen in the picture in front of the school is a crafted image of one of the legends who have fought for the thriving and establishment of sustainable agriculture in Nigeria. His infatigueable struggle in the sphere of agriculture was one of factors that led to the massive breakthrough in the Nigeria agricultural sector. No wonder the school was named after him "Michael Okpara" University of Agriculture Umudike.

Get to know him.......

Michael Iheonukara Okpara was a native of Umuegwu Okpuala, Ohuhu, in Umuahia, Abia State of Nigeria. Born on December, 25, 1920

Although the parents was not well to do, but he was not discouraged, hence was able to enroll in mission schools & later went to Uzuakoli Methodist College, it was here he won a scholarship to study medicine at Lagos, Yaba Higher College. Upon Completing his studies at the Nigerian School of Medicine, he was opportuned to worke shortly as a government medical officer before returning to his home Umuahia where he set up a private practice.

His attachment with the government of late Nnamdi Azikiwe was what that helped pushed him out in the political sphere.

He became one of the Nigerian politician & Premier of Eastern Nigeria in the First Republic, from 1959 - 1966. The nation's youngest Premier at 39. A strong advocate of what he identified as, "pragmatic socialism". He stongly believed that agricultural reform was extremely a necessity to the ultimate success of Nigeria.

Apart from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, there are several other institutions around the nation that are named after his name, these are...
Michael Okpara way in Abuja, Okpara square in Enugu, Michael Okpara College of Agriculture in Imo State which is now named, Imo State polytechnic, etc.
He gave up the ghost on 17th day of December 1984.

Center for Entrepreneurial Development Studies

The above picture is a wonderful structure specially dedicated to the center for Entrepreneurial Development Studies.
It is so far the biggest building in the school with about 400 rooms in it.
Trying to take a picture of this building was almost difficult, because of its large size and almost all parts of the building looks like the front and it's very attractive.
Because of its attractive nature, it has turned into a stadium where people go to take pictures.

College of Physical and Applied Sciences

The beautiful structure above is one of the most recent edifices that was put in place under the watch of the formal and late Vice Chancellor professor Ogbonaya Otunta as a special intervention of the Federal Government Tertiary Education Trust Fund ( tetfund).
And dedicated to the College of Physical and applied sciences.
I was at the site when the construction kicked off in the last quarter of 2018.
It is designed with a modern taste with potable wall fans fixed all around walls of all the lecture halls and sufficient air conditioners supplied in the various offices for temperature regulation.

College of Natural Sciences

Welcome to the college of Natural Sciences. The wonderful building was established under the watch of the foregone Vice Chancellor, Professor Hillary Eduoga, as a special intervention from TETFUND.
He belongs to this college and as a result he decided to use this building as a compensation for his college and as a legacy incase of when he vacates sit.

Ican Lecture Theater

This is a very wonderful and attractive structure equipped with modern days learning resources like electronic board, sound system, dedicated to College of Management Sciences (COLMAS).
It is a suitable venue for any special activities like seminar defense, project defense and other paper works.
It is another area that people always cluster around to take some pictures.

NDDC hostel

This is an exclusive female hostel. It was constructed as an intervention of the Niger Delta Development Commission, from here the name NDDC came about.
It is just an exceptional hostel, shares the quality of both hostel and lodge. It has quality power and water supply plus strong security system intact, what you can barely see in other hostels.

University clinic

This is the school clinic. As you can see from the picture, it was just recently finished, though it's already in use.
Arrival of this wonderful structure was just an answered prayer to create sufficient space where medical facilities would be accommodated and ill students and staffs attended to in a hygienic and conducive environment, unlike the formal dilapedated structure which was discouraging.

College Engineering & Engineering Technology

Here is the Colleges of Engineering & Engineering Technology (CEET). (Old site), I tagged it old site because there is presently a freshly finished structure which is now known as the CEET extension, located just about 150meters away from this one.
The carrying capacity of this building is comfortable enough to accommodate a total of six departments.
These departments includes....
Agricultural & Bio - resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

College of Applied Food Science & Tourism

This is the College of Applied Food Science & Tourism. It is one of the newest born structures, feel free to call it an extension since there have been an existing structure before this one.

Trying to capture this College was also a bit stressful. The building as you can see in the picture above consist of four separate or independent massive structures which spreads across a land space over 500meter

With this, we have come to the end of the tour, and with respect to instruction I've been able to share these few images. Hope you enjoy the view.

#NOTE; all the pictures were captured with my infinix smart 4 ( infinix x653), 8MP.

Much regards to @whitstallion &
