Name of my school and the location.

I school at Federal Polytechnic Oko. FPO can be located at in Oko, Orumba North L.G.A Anambra State, Nigeria. FPO came into existence through the fruitful effort of one of the prominent son of the soil and former Vice President of the Federation of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme.

The school first came to be as the College of Arts and Science in the year 1979. It later upgraded in June 28, 1980 as the College of Arts, Science and Technology. It became a State Polytechnic in June 27, 1984 in a bid to promote and develop the Oko town. It became known as the State Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State. In 1993, the federal government took over the affairs of the polytechnic which saw to the present Federal Polytechnic Oko. One can through gaining admission in the school become well advanced in knowledge about Anambra and it's neighbouring towns like Akwa, Nnewi, Nnaka, Onitsha, Akokwa etc. FPO consists of three campus.

  • Main Campus situated at Oko town.
  • Ufuma campus
  • Atani campus.
The tertiary institution is known for its beneficial collaboration with international colleges and companies. Currently three languages are being taught in the school.
*French which is a compulsory course every mass communication student must take in their first year.
  • German language is an elective course taken in 5 batches for 8 months. Interested students usually make payment in the bank and register with a proof of their payment.
  • Chinese language, I am currently studying this one. The course first started at University of Nnamdi Azikiwe (Unizik), before it extended to FPO,now they are Chinese Institute headquarters for the East. To register for Chinese class, we pay ₦30,000 in the account at Union Bank, it can be paid in installation and then proceed to the building Confucius Institute Oko. To be honest it is not an easy thing but I am so much fascinated by the language, it's formation and speaking which was one of the major reasons for taking it on. Though challenging, it is rewarding when you get to learn new words everyday. It consists of 6 levels which is studied with the regonised and authorised textbooks known as HSK 1-6. At the end of each session, students write an and if successful might be given a scholarship to continue studying at the universities in China. Last two years, 15 students were given scholarship to up to 8 universities.

Federal Polytechnic Oko is currently under the leadership of the Rector Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo.

My current semester

I am in the first semester of my final year in the university. My major prayer is that we will be able to follow the school calender without any hitches of strike, break or another pandemic. Combining my main courses and the elective course is not easy but it is doable. One only needs to employ discipline and be able to follow through with ones plans, there might be distractions and pleasures on the way but you have to make up your mind on which to follow.

Does my school have a hostel.

The main campus has two host that was only built for female, no male hostel. Dues to the issues raised by students the admission has promised to build a male hostel soon. In Ufuma and Atani campus, there is both a female and male hostels. Students who wish to stay in the hostels are required to fill a form which is provided by the (Director of Students Affairs) DSA,then pay in the bank the sum of ₦20,000 and proceed back to the office to know if you're u kept mine.
