Mike Tyson says he will "go all out" in his next fight.

Or so he says. The hype that lead up to the exhibition match between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr made it appear as though he was going to go all out in that fight, but for anyone that actually saw the fight, it didn't look like either guy was really going for anything other than a paycheck.

In a recent podcast interview Tyson was a bit cryptic about who he going to face, but he all but declared that he was going to have another bout this May.

When I was watching this fight back in November, I was actually starting to get a bit upset as the rounds went by because there seemed to be a little bit too much respect going on in the ring and not enough going all out... which is what we all wanted to see especially after seeing those training videos where Tyson looked like a beast and seemed as though he was hurting his trainers even though they were wearing loads of protective gear.

When the fight ended in a draw, the bar I was in erupted in groans but honestly, we all should have seen that coming since this was an unofficial and unsanctioned fight anyway that wouldn't count on either man's record anyway.

Tyson would later reveal in an interview what I suspected from about round 2 onward

“I wanted to go the distance. I didn’t want to knock anybody out. That’s what people expected, but I wanted to go the distance.”

That much was evident and I think if there had been a crowd there, there would have been at least a little bit of booing going on in the arena. There certainly would have been some when the fight was called a draw, which was likely the plan from the start. It wouldn't surprise me of both Tyson and Jones Jr had agreed beforehand to simply take it easy on one another and turn this into a money-making sparring session for the ages.

While an opponent has not yet been announced there is some talk about the bout will be against Evander Holyfield, who you may recall had a bout with Iron Mike that resulted in part of his ear getting bit off.

Tyson, who was already struggling both mentally and financially at the time, saw his license revoked because of this lack of self control back in 1997. Those of us who watched that fight felt a bit of Tyson's frustration as well because even though it was a long time ago, I remember that Holyfield was pretty well dominating the fight in nearly every aspect. The rest of it was just wild swings and hugging on both men's part. The fight only lasted 3 rounds and honestly, it was pretty boring.

So a rematch between these two, who have since patched things up and Tyson has chilled way the hell out, would be a nice one to see. The question remains though, will Tyson really go all out? Or is it just going to be another $50 snoozefest like the one in November was.

I think that most of us, after being relatively disappointed by the Jones Jr / Tyson fight in November are going to be significantly less excited about this one. I did not pay for the pay-per-view last time, but 1.2 million people just in the USA did do so, and this is more PPV's that active fighters sell lately.

I would bet good money that they don't sell that many the next time because it just doesn't seem likely to me that Tyson is really going to back up what he says and go for the kill. I hope he proves me wrong, that's for sure.

mike tyson is a great fighter

probably my favorite boxer of all time. After he left the sport, or was kicked out of it, I almost completely lost interest. It hasn't been the same without him.

but he has a bad behavior, it was a super star
