It's actually difficult for an artist by which his or her song is more popular than they are. They will be known as the one-hit wonder or the hitmaker of one song. One of those artists or bands is Magic! I am sure some of you might not be familiar of the band but if I'll sing the line "Why you gotta be so rude?", then you might know the song.
That song was "Rude", one of the biggest hits of 2014. When I heard the song, it is catchy and ear-friendly. It's not a rock song as many had mistaken. It is pop infused with reggae. It wasn't too long until the song reached the top 10 in Billboard Hot 100. Eventually, it spent several weeks at number 1.
"Rude" was negatively reviewed by some for either its lyrics or the tune. But some critics has appreciated the fun and melody, which I also think the reason for its success. But let's not forget the lyrics about this man or the protagonist asking for the blessing of his girlfriend's father. There are so many interpretations towards the song that it might have something to do with the race why the father doesn't like the guy. But I'll just simply take it that the father won't accept the man. The guy is persistent though, and hopefully, he won't resort to violence, Lol! Though in the music video, the father wanted another man for his daughter.
Despite being a number 1 hit, the song helped quite a bit to sell the album, and it's nothing so huge. Well, at least they had a number 1 hit, and that the "one-hit wonder" term is quite an insult as music media used, yet these critics are not even musicians.
