Good morning/afternoon teachers, parents, students and pupils all round the glope, welcome to my blog. Today is Friday 26th June, 2020 and I want to bring you an ode specially for my mum - this is a poem that I composed last night when I got a muse after getting on the phone with her.
You too can write something better and send it to them, it's not until you are rich that you show that you love your mother. This could be one easy and fastest way to prove your love.
Even at scourge of the noon you defy with pain
transcending the wombs of the virgin forest
As you go in search of daily bread for
we the hungry children and our neighbors
whose tears and loud cries
the man of the house has failled to consider.
daily you dig deep
into the earths womb
with much vigor
and desperation for the crumbs.
The sun
Here's the rain and the tress
All are chronicles of your suffering
as you fall and foam in your usuall cries.
You run through the thick forest
As a lion after it's prey
All to meet up with the man
Who promised to help
with fifty-nine naira to help your business.
because he has failed again
promise and fail has turned a game
that men play nowadays.
that you scamppered through that distance
with an empty stomach
empty as big letter O
Yet all you cared for was your children.
What will I do to show that I want to love you too
When will I give you the live you deserve
Please say alive and be in good health
That all that you have laboured for
You may live to reap them ALL.
Analysis of the Poem
Edima Eka Mmi 1 is written to celebrate my mother and the African mothers/women. In the words of the poet personae, one can see the imageries captured by the poet about the plight of Edima Eka Mmi which coincidentally is the poet's mother. She goes through a lot to ensure that her children have the best and that life has got to offer. The chronicles of her suffering spans from sunset till dawn even on empty stomach.
No doubt, one who is a good literary critic would see clearly some undertones of Buchi Emecheta’s The Joys of Motherhood character – Nnu Ego in this poem. Hence, the critical reader should be absorbed with pity for Edima Eka Mmi whose gone through hell as a single mother to raise this young man - the poet @voclab. I owe her my all.
