Background Information

8 It may interest you to know that 8/10 Literary Student often time complain that they do not understand poetry as a genre of Literary. Thus, their fear of poetry has been born by the fact that poetry is not written in plain language as drama and prose is.
But not to worry. This piece (lesson) is aimed at addressing such fear to ensure that you do not have such fear for poetry again. so please read through these poem and enjoy the analysis as follows.

At the break of dawn
You echo and reecho your EGO
on me at noon you lay your hands
Shouting and swaying
"I am the man"
"I am in charge"

But dusk has arrived
Now you change your tone
from an intimidating bass singer
to a luring song bird.
I am now your best friend
You'd remind me
With fake diplomatic smiles

Explanation of the poem

In “Ego” the poet exposes the ills of the three lettered word ego which does no good. Note that the man in the noon shouted at the woman to remind her of his position as the “male” and head of the family in the male dominated society.
However, at dusk the male seem to have lost his sense of reasoning by forgetting what he had said in the morning. No doubt the man’s voice has suddenly changed from being harsh to a soothing a luring because of the favours he needs. “I am you friend, (he mutters) with diplomatic smiles.

This poem is a good and timely comic relieve consciously scripted by the poet to ease off the stress and trauma which the African woman and his pathetic audience who have been absorbed by her plight. I can but imagine the woman’s response to this “repentant man” who has come for his conjugal right.

I hope that the poem analysis was useful to you. I choosed making it shout in other not to bore you.
