Ifeoma's father was the favoured candidate of a popular market chairmanship election in the eastern part of Nigeria, before the attack that claimed the lives of all members of her family except Ifeoma. She was advised by people to flee the town for fear that her father's attackers might come for her on the belief that she might later want to avenge her father's death. She listened to the advice and headed to a different far away town.

Ifeoma came to a new town empty-handed. Her father had invested all his wealth in the election so she had nothing to fall back on. She met an old schoolmate and childhood friend, Tina, and told her her pathetic story. Tina sympathized with her and accommodated her in her house. But little did Ifeoma know that her ordeal was far from over.

So one evening, Tina's fiancee Kelvin visited her and met only Ifeoma. He fell in love with Ifeoma and tried to seduce her, but Ifeoma turned down his advances. He became ashamed of himself and threatened to deal with Ifeoma for not responding to his lustfulness. He left the house before Tina returned from her travel. When Tina asked him why he could not wait, he lied that Ifeoma tried to seduce him, so he left the house.

Tina trusted Ifeoma so much; they had known each other since their childhood, and Ifeoma was a good girl. But Kelvin threatened to call off their wedding if she refused to send Ifeoma away. Tina's fear of losing her relationship made her send Ifeoma away.

Ifeoma left in the middle of the night, having nowhere to go, she slept in an open place in the street; very early the next day, she set out on an aimless journey; not knowing where to go, she flagged a taxi "Where are you going," the driver asked. "Anywhere just go", She replied to the surprise of other passengers, including a lady that she sat beside. Who asked her when every other passenger had gone out if it was Okay.

Ifeoma told her all she had gone through, the lady felt pity for her and took her to the family house where she lived with her parents. When the parents of the lady heard from Ifeoma about her ordeal, they felt pity for and accommodated her; after a few months, they adopted Ifeoma as their child. Which is what is best for her to fill in that family gap she lost. When she came back for a brief visit and told us her story, we were all happy for her.

The impact it had on you and what you learnt from it.

Most times in life, when we lose something, we think the best thing to do is to weep over it, not knowing that our loss is a disguise to push us to what is best for us. Ifeoma leaving Tina's house was the best. I think what she deceives in that her moment of grief was a family love to heal from the loss of her family, which she got from her newfound family where she can get the love of a father, mother and siblings.
