Stories, learnings and reflection #06/(The Mother who Loved and Spoiled His Only Son)

Greetings Amiable Steemians, I lack words to express how delightful I feel whenever I am privileged to share stories and experiences that changed my perception vis-a-vis a life time narration. I will not forget to thank @alexanderpeace for always ensuring that we gather like this weekly. Today I will be sharing a real life experience that taught me a million lessons. It is the story of a Woman who loved and spoiled His Only Son.

As my culture as always been, permit me not to mention the actual names of people. However, my story is nothing but a reality. In Nigeria, I lived with a woman who had two children about the age of 16 and 24 respectively. I came to realize that the 16 year old boy never attended school despite his age. I was curious to know why, so I asked people around and all I heard was that the son refused schooling.

Curiosity pushed me to ask more questions and the whole story was made known. Madam G got married to a young man at a very tender age. The marriage was blessed with two kids (a male and a female). Sadly, She lost the male child 5 years after his birth. This incident was highly traumatic. Life continued and God continued to bless them abundantly. 4 years later, a sad news reach the mother that her daughter was death. What a second tragedy!

Life was unbearable until mother "G" had another daughter. Happiness filled their home yet the woman was not satisfied since all she wanted was a male child. Few years after the birth of their daughter, mother G and her husband made having a male child their prayer point. They continued praying until the woman was pregnant again. They prayed seriously hoping to blessed with a male Child. At the point of birth, she delivered a male child. Yet, she lost her husband the same night her son was born.

Could this be a goodnews that God has blessed them with a male child after series of prayers or should it be a sorrowful thing that she has lost a husband and more? Life became unbearable with her as her family despised her, her in-laws made her an outcast to the point of accusing her of killing their son. Things were weird to the point that she had no one to give her postnatal care, not even did she had money to pay her bills. These situations pushed her to stand up and move into the street for green pasture.

Before the boy was a year old, she had ventured into pork meat business, rearing of goats, pigs, and even hawking of items such as akara and bread, kerosene, palm oil etc. All these points to the fight that life was unbearable for her. After two years, in other to make good use of her suffering, she decided to protect her son with everything she had. She never allowed the boy to lack for anything, cry for anything or do any of the home chores by himself. Mother G would always serve her son breakfast on bed, heat water for him to bath, brush his teeth, sweep the floor, wash the dishes, wash their clothes etc.

Her children had just two duties which was viewing movie and eating. They did nothing especially the boy. The pampering of the boy was to protect him so he could grow up and become the heir to all his late Father's properties. In my opinion, I would say that the pampering was extreme that he began to feel that everything should be done for him including reading, doing of assignments, writing and copying of note etc. it was so deep that he refused to even attend classes.

Now, in a situation where discipline should prevail, the mother continued to pamper and would even go mad at anyone who tries to correct the boy in an harsh manner. The boy grew up to become an authority of its own. He makes his decision and stand my it. Notable things he did include:

This boy lived his life the way he wanted, he made bad company a daily lifestyle, and made education his nightmare. It was at this point that the mother realized that she had loved and spoiled her only Son. She is now in the state of confusion as the son gets involved in crime activities on a daily basis which in most cases gets either him or the mother arrested. The heir she tried to raised is now a calamity to the family, Community and the society at large.

If there's life, I would gladly drop what would become of the boy in the nearest future. However permit me to strike out some vital lessons this ongoing story has taught me vis-a-vis the impacts it has on me. It would be discussed under the heading 👇

I have learned that never in life should I Allow the situations of life to completely influence the way I respond to situations around me. This is Because, in the story, the woman allowed the situation surrounding her to influence the way she raised her children up and that is one of the reasons why her son grew up to gained total authority of himself.

I have learned never to allow the rod to rest while the son becomes wayward. Whereas, certain levels of discipline must always be given to children so as to correct them by serving as deterrent.

I have learned that there is a time designated for everything around us. As such even when correcting a child, one needs to do it at a tender age so that when he grows up he will continue to abide by it. Unlike the woman who wanted to correct her son when he had already grown up.
