The debate(14): students should not be allowed to use cell phones in school

Good day everyone. Its @emmaboy23 and am here to put my opinion on this contest titled : should students be allowed to use phones in school. I would like to thank the organiser of the contest @sahmie

STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE CELL PHONE AT SCHOOL

In Nigeria, nowadays owning a cell phone is not an option but a priority. The number of youth and teenagers owning cell phones has increase greatly. Now mobile phones are not just for calling, but you can now use it to text, take and send pictures, it can also be used to enter various social media platform, access the Internet, watch videos, play games and many more. They have also become a lot cheaper making it easier for more and young people to own it.


For students owning a phone is not bad, as it can bring new and various ways to learn and also opportunity to be enlightened about the things in the country. However, students should not be allowed to bring their phones to school. Allowing cell phone in school is simply giving the student the privilege to take their attention somewhere else.

Students should not be allowed to bring cell phones to school because it can affect their listening skills, first, it distract the student from the lesson, this affect the student as he/she will be texting and texting because the student is addicted to cell phone and will not be able to concentrate or understand the lesson. Second, the student can cheat during an exam. We all know that our society is becoming technology based, there is WiFi everywhere and also there are pocket WiFi, broad bands, and load data's that can be used in surfing the net. So if they take the test there is every tendency they can use their cell phones to cheat on the exam. Using cell phone in class can be a waste of time in class discussions. The reason why student went to school is to have knowledge and they can't achieve that if they always have their phones with them.

participation in class is key to achieving knowledge. This can be hinder if students are given the licences to bring their phones to school as they will be busy chatting and texting and lose focus on the lesson making them not participating in class activities which later leads to falling grades.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, students should not be allowed to use cell phones in schools because it is a source of distraction to other students and to the person with the cell phone, and there are phones in school that students are allows to use only for emergency. Allowing students use cell phones in school is a big threat to education as it will deprive students from quality education and getting the right knowledge.
