Dictatorship is a system that Pakistani people have suffered many times. I have heard many elderly educated people saying that Ayub Khan's era was the period of Pakistan's development and prosperity. Pakistan has not been able to do as much as the industry had developed during that period.
The people of Pakistan have seen many rounds of democracy and we are witness to the fact that the recent and the previous democratic periods were worst in many aspects, like inflation, bad international relations, IMF deals, increasing extremism in attitudes etc.
But I will still choose the democratic system. And the reason is that a few years of dictatorship has poured such poison into the veins of my country that it will take decades for the agitation to end.
Dictatorship is a force which suppresses any kind of resistance in a situation, but whenever this force is removed a little bit, the same resistance springs up with much more intensity. Dictatorship is not a way to create a stable society for development. Democracy is an approach to produce an environment suitable for progress because of freedom of action.Democracy or dictatorship: Which is better for stability and progress?
How does democracy help a country move forward compared to a dictatorship?
Freedom, equality, respect for individuals are key characteristics of a democratic way of government. Such factors bring people and society in a state of tranquility which provide an ecosystem more suitable for progress. If the self-interest of individuals is protected, they work better to enhance their efficiency and in turn put forward their country's economy.
Someone once said that "**Democracy is a slow process of stumbling to the right decision instead of going straight forward to the wrong one**. ” So in my point of view, dictatorship can only beat down a problem on a temporary basis. It can not provide a permanent solution. It can't change orthodox society norms and lack in developing new progressive ideas. Can a dictatorship handle tough times better than a democracy?
Why is personal freedom important for a country to grow under different types of governments?
A person's freedom helps him to flourish according to his own well. And in such cases, his work is tremendously capable of excellency. Although when there are restrictions on the freedom of individuals, they always feel burdened. It lowers their confidence and ceases their creativity. In turn, they are less efficient and can't play a significant role in the overall country's development under any type of government.
