Hello friends!!!๐๐ป๐๐ป
My name is osinachi Rex (Rexzitek). Today in this debate, i'll be writing on "the reasons why students shouldn't be allowed to use phones in school"
Recently, With the rapid development of technology, smartphones have become an integral part of our lives. They allow us to communicate, work, learn, and entertain ourselves. But are smartphones really a blessing, or are they a curse to the students?, should they be allowed to use phones in school? NO they shouldn't be allowed
There's no doubt that smartphones offers a wealth of benefits to students. It gives them access to a vast amount of information and entertainment, and it also helps them stay connected with family and friends, in case of emergency. But are we forgetting the detriments?
What's the overall aim of a student in school? the aim of a student is to learn and grow, acquiring knowledge and skills that would help the student succeed in life. Smartphones in school can be, and is a major source of distraction to the students. With phones at their fingertips, right inside the school premises. Students will be tempted to check social media, play games, or engage in other non-educational activities.
Social media is a major detriment to students in school. Many students are addicted to social media, and this can have a negative impact on their schoolwork. When students are constantly checking their phones for updates or notifications, they can become less engaged in their studies and have difficulty focusing in class. This can lead to lower grades and a lack of progress in school.
As we know, majority of students in high school are within the age range of 9 to 18. At this stage, these students are vulnerable to offensive contents. Smartphones can be a safety concern, as they can be used by students to access inappropriate content from the internet, engage in risky behavior, and communicate with strangers.
Beyond the academic drawbacks of smartphones in school, there are also a number of social and emotional disadvantages. Students who are constantly on their phones(addicted) may have difficulty interacting with others in person, leading to social isolation. This is also a detriment to the social life of the students. Smartphone use has also been linked to the increased rate of anxiety and depression among young people. This can have a detrimental impact on students' well-being and may hinder their ability to learn and perform well in school.

In conclusion, there are both positive and negative effects of smartphone use in school by students. Smartphones can be a powerful educational tool, providing students with access to a wealth of information and resources. On the other hand, smartphones can also be a major distraction, leading to decreased focus and poor academic performance, which gives the reason why it shouldn't be allowed in school. In addition, there are social and emotional effects of smartphones, as well as the potential for addiction. It is important for parents, teachers, and students themselves to be aware of both the benefits and drawbacks of smartphone use in school, in order to ensure that students are able to use this technology in a way that supports their academics.
With these few points of mine, i hope i've been able to convince you and not to confuse you that phones shouldn't be allowed in school.
Thank you.

There are both positive and negative effect of technology devices in this case the smartphone.
Above, you've mentioned the constant checking for updates and this is one of the greatest distractions because the human brain becomes wired to anticipating updates that even when there is no update the body won't rest until it picks up the phone and begins to fiddle while waiting for update.
In a school environment, I would say ohones shouldn't be permitted.
