How are you all? Hope everyone is well. I'm fine too. Today I appeared to participate in the ongoing Contest: The Debate (Week 49); DOES TECHNOLOGY SEPARATE OR BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER? contest in the Steem Fashion&Style community. At the beginning of the competition I would like to thank @sahmie sir for giving us such a beautiful competition.
No, I have never felt that I am more closely connected to my friends and family by using social media.
I started using social media from December 2021. Before using this social media I used to spend around 4-5 hours daily with my friends apart from school time. But, since the advent of social media, we may be connected through the network for the entire time of the day, but that intimacy is no longer there. I don't even remember the last time we met in real life outside of virtual life.
There was a time when I had breakfast, lunch and dinner with my family every day. I used to share my happiness and sorrows with the rest of the family members But, since the advent of social media, it is not so much to inquire about each other's health, let alone have three meals together.
To be honest, except for my family members, my contact or meeting with other people is more through phone than face to face. My school life friends house is only 2-2.5 km away from my house. However, we don't meet them directly anymore, because with the development of technology, we talk in groups via video or audio calls or group chats through smartphones, so that we can save the time of traveling to meet and use that time for other purposes.
But, alas, after chatting with friends we spend more time scrolling through social media for no reason than is allotted for commuting.
Through the use of technology, we can make many new friends in addition to the people we already know. Although they are only nominal Facebook friends. Because if you notice, there are many people around us who have 5000 friends on Facebook, but not a single person from among those 5000 friends comes to his side in times of danger.
But, not everyone is of the same mindset. Because by spending time on social media, I have made several new friends out of which Naeem and Salahuddin have become like my very close friends. They have helped me in many of my dangers. The close people have also withdrawn their hands without helping.
So, I admit that I should give priority to this topic among the myriad of unnecessary topics in technology.
Yes, I sometimes feel very lonely when using social media. While scrolling through social media, sometimes when I see videos of friends of the same age having fun together in front of me, I remember a lot about my own friends. Unknowingly I kept reminiscing about those golden afternoons and afternoon tiffin times of school life.
Oh, what a happy time it was. Sharing tiffin and eating together, playing sports in the school playground with friends ignoring the hot afternoon sun. Those moments of playing football, cricket and volleyball together after school are remembered a lot after watching some videos on social media.
In the days before the use of technology, on school holidays, we used to organize sports together with our friends at a playground. Morning turned to noon, afternoon turned to afternoon, but we did not even think about going back home that day. We used to cycle and sometimes meet friends from several kilometers away. If it was too difficult to meet a friend, we would exchange information with each other through someone he knew.
But, technology has come and changed our whole system. Now we don't get together on holidays, we don't play cricket or football. We sit in our rooms and play virtual sports connected through the network through PUBG or Free-Fire. Now even if someone is sick, we use technology to trace him. Once in the body, we never arrive at his house. Which really shows the identity of our warped brains.
- Best Regards,,
