The Debate (no.30); Physical book is a better format for reading

Books has been one of man’s greatest treasure over the years. In a lay man understanding, we see books as the compilation of man’s ideas or ideologies about a particular subject matter. Over the years, books have changed from papyrus, scrolls, paper and even electronic books. These electronic books can be in electronic devices like mobile phone, laptops, MacBook’s, etc. Let’s see which one is my preference?

Among these forms of books, I’ll prefer paper book. This is because this type of book doesn’t cause any distraction or diversion of attention. In this case, I’ll use my phone as a point of view. I am a student and also a steemian. With these roles in my life, messages or phone calls in collaboration with social media will cause distraction. And opening an e book to read will be a prank because the attention is lost.

I’ll still prefer the paper book in term of focus. If we noticed that notifications can’t popup on paper book but mobile devices have that ability. This will make the reader to lose focus and easily get distracted. Paper book can also go well in term of recalling and remembrance. The different inks or mon ink imprinted on a paper book can one easily recall what he or she read.

• It is easily accessible
• can be used by people of all ages

Disadvantages

• It’s sometime bulky
• Disrupt the ecosystem by causing waste products

• It’s limited because it requires electrical power
• The blue rays from the screens of the device can affect the eyes

As I said earlier, the physical book has less ability of making a reader to be distracted while e books have more potential of that. We all know that e book cannot be functional unless a device is there to back it up. These mobile devices can send in notifications or other prompting that can cause the reader to read it. When these notifications are opened, the tendency of going back to the eBooks will be diminished.

I still recommend physical books at any time. When we look at the immediate environment which is the human body, mobile devices which support eBooks, it emits rays which might be dangerous to the human eyes. Meanwhile paper books can’t show that effect.
