Hello everyone, today I am here to join you in this course. I feel the need to learn to understand about asthma and the correct way to exercise to relieve the symptoms of the disease.
Previously I would like to say hello to our teaching team @ashkhan and I would also like to invite @abdulrakib @rumaisha and @haide.
✅ What is Asthma? Write in your own words after gaining knowledge from the lesson post. |
---|
Asthma is a lung and respiratory disease. When someone experiences this disease, their respiratory tract will become narrow and inflammation of the airways occurs. This condition causes a sufferer to have difficulty breathing.
Although this asthma disease can be cured, in some cases this disease can cause chronic situations in sufferers and even cause death due to late treatment or incorrect treatment.
Several types of asthma can be classified based on their causes such as asthma due to allergies, due to certain jobs and asthma caused by sports activities. In addition, there is nocturnal asthma, which is asthma that only occurs at night.
The causes vary from smoking habits, exposure to chemicals, poor environmental conditions such as air pollution and dust. In addition, extreme weather can also cause asthma. Animal fur can also trigger asthma. In addition, asthma is sometimes caused by the habit of doing heavy exercise.
There are several symptoms that often occur in asthma sufferers such as difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing, and feeling restless and having no enthusiasm in the body or lethargic.
✅ How to diagnose asthma? Are there any clinical investigations or assessment tests? |
---|
There are several ways to diagnose asthma:
The first is to examine the patient's medical history.
Physical test. Usually the doctor will perform a physical test on the patient by examining the upper respiratory tract such as the nose and throat.
The doctor will also perform a lung function test using a special tool to measure the speed of air in the patient's breathing. And this usually uses a spirometer.
Allergy test. The doctor can also perform allergy tests on the patient's skin and blood to determine the cause of asthma.
Performing a chest x-ray is a common method.
To diagnose asthma, it cannot be done in just one way, but must combine several methods, namely medical history examination, physical examination and a combination of other tests.
✅ Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share pictures, gifs, or videos while practicing. |

- Diaphragm exercises.
This exercise is also often called abdominal breathing exercises. The method is to place the right hand on the left chest and the left hand on the lower abdomen. Then take a deep breath and exhale slowly.
The benefits of this exercise are to make the mind and body more relaxed, reduce blood pressure and can increase the amount of oxygen in the blood.
- Chest stretching exercises.
There are several ways to do this exercise. I choose to use an easier way, namely by standing and clasping my hands behind my back, lifting them high and holding them for about 15-20 seconds.
The benefits of this exercise are to increase flexibility and range of motion, especially in the shoulders. In addition, chest exercises are also very useful for recovering chest muscle injuries and this prevents muscle stiffness.
- Pursed lip breathing exercise.
This exercise is done by pursing the lips to expel the remaining air from the lungs. The movement of the lips forms a whistling motion.
The benefit of this exercise is to increase the volume of oxygen that comes out and enters the lungs. In addition, this exercise is needed to keep the airways open longer.
✅ Share your reviews after doing this exercise either on yourself, healthy individuals, or patients. |

I felt many positive things after doing this exercise. I felt a more relieved and loose throat when breathing. By taking a deep breath I felt my head became lighter, this was caused by a more relaxed brain condition.
Previously I often experienced muscle pain in my chest when breathing, but after doing this exercise I felt better and the pain began to disappear.
Overall I felt that my breathing became smoother and more regular, and my heart rate felt more stable.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (2.7/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, types. But a bit more depth require to complete the answer. Asthma is the reversible condition that can be cured either with medications and physical therapy too. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.6/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing investigations tests but you can also add specialized tests spirometer to measure the lung function. Great.
Task 3 (3.4/4)
You try the Pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle (pectoralis major) stretch. You did the diaphragmatic and pursed lip breathing in correct way. But while performing stretching of chest try to keep your arms stretch and don't stretch beyond your flexibility limit. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
