Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W4; Asthma

A higher percentage of females indeed suffer from this disease, especially after puberty. The reason is not made fully clear, but the truth here is that hormonal differences between males and females, differences in lung function, and environmental and lifestyle factors like exposure to allergens like dust and airway responsiveness result in this. I have seen asthma cases, and the few I have seen are all women.

Another thing is that asthma can occur at any age, but research shows that as people age, a decrease in symptoms is always seen, and also people may appear to have outgrown asthma. A lower percentage of adults suffer from asthma, but in most cases, it can be more chronic in adults. Though there is no specific cure, we can always get proper treatment and management, even with physiotherapy exercise, before it emerges for those who have it.

Definition of Asthma

5_20241123_113137_0003.jpg

Asthma is a serious lung disease that can cause us to have breathing difficulties. It occurs in the lungs' airways and becomes triggered when exposed to irritants; this can lead to the narrowing of the airways. It comes with symptoms such as shortness of breath, a wheezing sound when breathing, etc., and if left without being treated, can be life-threatening.

Types of Asthma

3_20241123_113136_0001.jpg

Occupational asthma is asthma that occurs due to the work performed by an individual; if a person is exposed to dust, different gases, and fumes, it can irritate the airways, leading to asthma.

Conventional asthma is also known as allergic asthma. It is chronic and is caused by respiratory infections such as colds and dust; it may also come with cough, chest tightness, etc.

Exercise-induced asthma is very self-explanatory; in very intense or prolonged exercise, one can experience a shortage of breathing, and a wheezing sound can be said to be asthmatic.

Asthma Assessment

It is very important to combine the patient's medical history, previous disease occurrence, physical examination, and clinical evaluation.

Chest X-ray: It is a form of imaging that produces images of the chest, including the lungs, heart, and surrounding tissue, to be sure there is no narrowing of the airway by foreign objects or any detected lung infection, disease, or accidents.

LFT (lung function test): This test is done to be sure the lungs are functioning well; some of the tests, like plethysmography, measure the total lung capacity and residual volume; others, like oximetry, measure oxygen saturation of the blood; and spirometry, which is done to see the amount of air that can be inhaled by a person.

Sputum analysis: Sputum is that thick and sticky fluid produced in the lungs' airways; it can be cultured to detect allergies and infections causing asthma, and the patient will be asked to take precautions against these allergies and treated with bacteria-destructive tablets.

V blogging the Exercise I performed

I was able to perform all this exercise in my neighbour's saloon for a clear view on the camera, I wasn't the only one that performed this exercise I made my junior brother perform some then I became his coach

Chest Stretches

Diaphragmatic Exercise

Pursed lip breathing

and even box breathing......

My Review

4_20241123_113136_0002.jpg

I just observed that exercises like box breathing help increase the amount of air entering the lungs and help the lungs adapt to a shortage of air; that is when the pause in breathing is done.

I also discovered that in breathing normally, I may not take note of the inhalation and passage of air, but in box breathing, pursed lips breathing, the intake of air is more efficient and gives room for an increased lung volume. I also feel inhalation and exhalation control with diaphragmatic breathing.

In chest breathing, I felt flexibility in my chest muscles and my shoulder region, so when this exercise was done, I heard a sound in my chest muscle showing an expansion.

I would love to see entries from @ngoenyi, @saintkelvin17, @bossj23, and @sahmie in this contest.

Observations

Task 1 (2.6/3)
You have shared a good knowledge about asthma, it's symptoms, and types. But you didn't add it's cause and trigger points that worsen asthma. And asthma is a curable condition that can be cured either with medications or physical therapy. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing investigations and specialized tests. Lung function test and spirometer are different things. You don't need to add them in one category. LFT is a imaging tests but Spirometer is done by machine and patient can perform it easily. Good.

Task 3 (3/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle (pectoralis major) stretch. You did the pursed lip breathing and chest stretch correctly. But in diaphragmatic breathing, you don't need to keep your hand on your neck it should be on your chest and abdomen. Please next time try to make your video in proper light area. Always remember to take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from asthma, as winter is the trigger of most people suffering from asthma. Thank you.

I am so grateful for this grade, learning never ends, i will do better next time, even my brother was complaining that i was too dark in the room as there were no proper lighting, the suggestion are amazing i will take them to account,

Diaphragmatic Breathing i need to place my hands on my chest, wow i missed that.
I didn't mention the causes of asthma
And also proper lighting can help too in make visual clear, Have a nice day ma'am

That's great you admit your mistakes. Yes share your best participation in the next week and get a chance to win.
