Greetings, steemers!

Welcome to my first post in this community. I've recently discovered it, and I'm so pleased I did. So, I hope this is the first one of many more to come :)

Grading My High School Teachers

As a student in high school, I didn't do very well. I was excellent in 2 subjects that were English and *"Castellano"* (Castilian, another word for Spanish). Yeah, basically I'm only good for languages and grammar, haha. Also, I was so shy and introverted that not many teachers noticed me, so fortunately I wasn't "on their radar," therefore, I don't have memorable moments to remember with my teachers." Uhm, why I am saying this? I should be talking about my teachers, LOL!

Ok, I had all kinds of teachers. I remember all of them very well, so if this challenge consisted in recalling all of them, I would write the longest post in the history of Steemit, I swear!

Let's get on with the questions:

♦ ♦ ♦

As a student imagine about being asked to assign a grade out of 1 to 10 to every teacher you have ever had.

Q1. Which teacher will be the worst? and why?

The worst teacher I had in high school was the *"Cátedra Bolivariana"* teacher (Bolivarian Cathedra); she was a teacher that had no interest at all in teaching her subject matter but in indoctrinating students with her politic ideology. Her subject was supposed to teach Simon Bolivar's life and work, because he is a hero of our homeland and the emancipator of the country, but this teacher spent her classes talking about the president, who by the time was Hugo Chavez. She was totally blinded by fanaticism and we did not learn a single thing we were supposed to. I consider this teacher had no professional ethics at all. 1/10

Q2. Which teacher will be the best? and why?

This was a hard one, because I loved all my English teachers, but I have to admit who was superior to all of them in matters of professionalism and experience... It was my math teacher from the last year o high school, who we knew as "the little boss." What a teacher! I was extremely bad in math until I met that man. He made me think that I wasn't bad for math, but only needed someone who taught me like him. This old man had such a reputation in that school that no one dared to even joke in front of him. It was evident that he had an incredible formation as a teacher. His pedagogy was flawless and the methods this man had to make himself understood were unique. If we could clone that old man and make those clones of him teach in all schools around the world, there were less people who hates math and maybe, just maybe, we might have more math geniuses. I mean, if I could be excellent in a subject I usually failed, let's just imagine the odds. 100/10

Q3. What did you learn from both teachers (the worst & best)?

From the worst teacher, I learnt what NOT to do myself as I teacher. When I was teaching, I tried to separate my subjective opinion from the class. Politic ideologies are not something to be imposed to your students, I honestly think indoctrination should be forbidden, but we sadly live in a country where indoctrination is almost the norm. From the best teacher I learnt that teachers don't need to brag about what they know, but demonstrate it in their teachings, I learnt it is possible to be respected even in this chaotic and socially broken system, I learnt simplicity is the best we can apply to our teaching methods, and of course, I learnt his math lessons.

Q4. If you are to write a letter of gratitude to the teacher, what would you write down?

Well, I would probably say something similar to what I've just said about my best teacher. It would be something like this:

Dear teacher, I hope you're fine.
I want to tell you some words that you probably need to hear (or read in this case). You were the best teacher I've ever had. I mean, you should know that for someone out there, no matter if you remember me or not, you were the best teacher among all teachers. That means a lot. I even joke about making clones of you and have them teaching math to all students around the world, so feel proud of who you are. When I decided to be a teacher, my goal was to be at least half of good as you are. Thank you so much for everything you taught us, there will never be another you, little boss!

Thanks for reading!

I will invite @frafiomatale, @bengy, and @gems.and.cookies for this contest. They always have some interesting to say, and I know this wouldn't be an exception :)

Your story reminded me of my interaction with two Italian language teachers in high school. According to the judgement of the first one, I was not able to write, my compositions were worthless and no matter how hard I tried, the exams were always insufficient. The class changed teachers in the last two years my texts were suddenly worth eight to ten and the exams were excellent.
I have always thanked my second teacher because he was a teacher of life as well as of the Italian language and because he had evidently succeeded in bringing out my qualities, something the first one had failed to do.
Even your maths teacher is proof that a good teacher knows how to bring out the best in everyone.
A big hug! 🤗

Thanks a bunch for reading! There are teachers like the first one you mentioned that seem to never be satisfied with anything we do. I had a few, and it was frustrating.
Blessings for you :)

Congratulations!
