Hello guys, welcome to my entry to contest "grading your high school teachers". In this contest, both student and non students have the opportunity to talk about their best and worst teachers by giving them grades. If you missed the contest post, you can have it here.

I was just laughing when I came across this contest because back then in school it was all funny. I had finished my high institution in 2016 (Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance) from Abia State Polytechnics, Abia State Nigeria. Those days I use to wonder how some of our lecturers managed to get employed by the school. Most of them had no clue of what the course they were teaching talks about, they just come to read out the text book and go back to their offices once their time ellapses.

Who is a teacher?

Before I go into the context of the contest, I would like to throw more light on who is a teacher and the role they play.

A teacher is one who imparts knowledge on the student and help the student to grow in that area of study.

The Role Of A Teacher:

  • Mentorship: A teacher is a mentor in the sphere that he is teaching. A teacher is supposed to be someone who is already good in what he is teaching, so he can be able to impart knowledge to his)her students.

  • A Teacher Inspires: A Teacher should be one who inspires his students to get better in their studies. The student should be able to look up to their teacher and would want to be like them and attain their heights.
    Lot

  • Motivates: A teacher should be someone that motivates the students to go extra mile in achieving their goal in their studies and stand out as the best among all.

  • Teachers Impart Knowledge: Teachers are supposed to be people who are expert in what they teach and are good in imparting the knowledge down to their students.

These and more are the roles of teachers.

Which teacher will be the worst? and why?

Miss Judith:

I had this Miss Judith lecturer in my year one as a fresh undergraduate student. She was handling us on political science. This lady knew nothing about politics and political science. As young as I was then, I don't know much about politics, but I knew she didn't know what she was talking about. In all the lectures she had taken us, she comes to tell us how she was friends of this senator, how she visited this governor, how she went out to hang out with this senator and how this senator asked her out.

Her lectures was so boring and uninteresting. Because of her, a lot of us lost interest in political science and anything politics. She was the worst lecturer, I couldn't pin point anything I will say I learnt from all her lectures through out that semester.

I will grade her 1/10 input

Professor Kuje Snr:
This man was my HOD (Head of department) in banking and finance department Abia State Polytechnics Nigeria, and he lectured us on banking and Finance. This lecturer took us as more or like his children. He lectures and talks to us as though he is lecturing his children at home. He was not just interested in us making good grades, h was interested in us becoming someone better when we get out of the walls of the institution. He made us to understand that beyond what we received in the lecture hall, we should put extra effort in other to succeed in life.

He was literally a father. At a point people started going to open up to him about their private lives and was seeking for help. The man was that good. He was my best lecturer seriously.

So I will grade him 10/10 input.

What did you learned from both teachers (the worst & best)?

Lesson From Worst Teachers (Miss Judith):

I didn't learn anything from Miss Judith seriously. I actually knew that she wasn't meant to be a lecturer. She probably worked her way into it after she couldn't get other jobs. She is probably supposed to be a makeup artist or go into fashion or even modelling, because that was where she fits in. She coming to lecture was a mess, she couldn't represent.

But one thing I tell people is to do what they love doing, not what they think is good or what their parents pushed them into doing.

Lesson From Professor Kuje Snr:

  • Do what you love doing, you will do it better: I was inspired by Mr Kuje all through. He was doing what he loved doing. He saw the students first as his children and not just his student. So he was compassionate about our well being.

  • Discipline: This man was so disciplined that with his busy schedules he was able to do study and got his doctorate degree. Back then, he will be telling us rigorous stress he was putting in just to get the doctorate degree. He was a full time lecture and a (HOD), and at the same time, he was always travelling to another city for his own lectures. The kind of projects and seminars they use to subject them to do. And he will do all that and still have the time to do his lecturing job and other things he was involved in. It could only take discipline.

  • Consistency: Another virtue he has was consistency. He was really determined to get the doctorate degree at that time, so he couldn't allow any of the discouragements and rigorous stress to stop him. As at that time, his wife was late. He had his children to take care of, and everything was weighing down on him. But he never gave up. He was consistent, even in the midst of all the bad circumstances that surrounded him. And at the end, he got the degree with a good result, he was so happy.

  • Humility: Professor Kuje is a very humble man. He is humble to the point of telling us some of his personal experiences and challenges. He was even advising the guys on how to be careful with their lives so they don't lost their own wives the way he lost his out of carelessness. This man was so open to us, it can only take humility to do that. He literally created a very conducive environment for any student to easily come around him.

If you are to write a letter of gratitude to the teacher, what would you write down?

Dear Professor Kuje,
I want to appreciate you sir from the dept of my heart for all the impact you put in while I was under you. Your lecture was beyond lecture, it was always a fatherly advice. Some of those advice then contributed to my success in life today. You are a rare gem, I have never forgotten those days and will never forget them in a haste. Each time I remember my school days, you are one of the people that I am grateful that I came in contact with.

Continue to do the good work, you will never go unrewarded someday. I love 💕 and appreciate you a million times.

Yours Sincerely
Faith Okoro

Conclusion

After the parents, teachers are the next set of persons that influence the lives of the children. They play a big role in the society. So if anyone is not wired to be a teacher, he better don't get into it, because he will mess things up and as well mess up the lives of the students.

Hello @mato445, this is my entry to contest.

I also invite @mesola, @ishayachris and @sahmie to come tell us their experiences about their teachers back in school.

Thank you for sharing this interesting grading of your school teachers. Well, teachers do great job inspiring, motivating and preparing us for future life. They may not all give us what we want but non of them is worth grading low. Their impacts may not be visible but they are doing great. I love all my teachers, lecturers and HODs

Yes ma, those are the works of teachers. But it's not everyone that is supposed to be a teacher. When someone that is not supposed to be a teacher goes in that way, it could be frustrating because the person is not wired to be a teacher. We all have the areas we can perform better.
Thanks for visiting

My dear friend your presentation on this topic is excellent. Is annoying when someone who is a teacher/lecturer can not deliver his or her work well. But thank God you have your HOD as a good lecturer . Goodluck on this contest.

Yes.
Everyone is not supposed to do some certain jobs, that is what most persons don't understand.
Do what you love doing, you will do it well.
