Introduction

Green computing as a term came into being by the US environmental protection agency, launching the Energy Star in 1992. The star is an award for computers and electronics. Its goal is to minimize the cost with an increase in profit.

The first step toward green computing was introducing the sleep mode in computers. Green computing is the new concept of corporate social responsibility, whose aim is to reduce the harmful impacts on the surrounding from the usage of computers and other electronics.

This concept is applied from its manufacture to its disposal. This concept is used to reduce the harmful effects on the environment. In the modern generation, computers are there in every business and play a big role in polluting the environment by the footprints generated by it.

In an organization, computers use 60-70 percent electricity which is not in the use of people but will be turned ON, and it emits CO2. So it’s necessary to acknowledge people from green computing by saving energy and securing their environment.

Green computing is part of environmental science, which allows people to design, manufacture and dispose of it efficiently without harming the environment. Its main goal is to manage the power and efficient software and recycling of material with the increased life cycle of the product. Green computing has helped a lot in the emission of carbon dioxide and other technologies which secure the energy from its waste.

In a lot of cases, projects are being done with less interest of environmental interest. Technology manufacturing can waste lots of energy and raw material as well as it can affect the environment. But there are places where this problem is catering as an opportunity and companies do competition to protect the environment. And finding new applications of green computing such as;

Datacenter and overall energy efficiency

The usage of electricity has increased the cost of the data centers. So it can be possible to reduce its consumption by designing it differently and changing its design.

There are two ways to decrease the consumption of energy. One which lesser its consumption but a requirement of power capacity remain same. And one who also takes the capacity into account. Therefore, for the data centers, the avoidance of structural consumption is worth twice the temporary consumption.

Electronic waste disposal and recycling

Electronic waste is the term used for all electronic types of equipment disposed of by their users, this includes everything like refrigerators and ovens. It is known that those waste materials contain hazardous compounds in them, and it’s dangerous to the surrounding.

Telecommuting

When the concept comes to mind of an office without walls, it is called telecommuting. It allows people to work from homes or satellites to commute with computers, wireless connections, and telephone rather than transpiration. It gives an outlook for simulations of businesses and trends of management.

Telecommuting is doing work any time you need to work from any location. It is important for those businesses who want to improve their existing programs or develop new ones.

Virtualization of server resources

Masking the server resources by severing users including individual servers, operating systems, and processors are called Server virtualization. It is the division of a physical server into virtual servers to help its resources to maximize.

Thin client solutions and Use of open source software: With the current hot debate about environmental change, one question here is, how to save energy?

The institute of Fraunhofer has done a project on the consumption of PC and Thin clients recently. It has considered all the supply chain including its manufacture to its recycling the result was, that Thin Clients weigh 30% more than usual PCs and the transportation volume was 80% less.

Thin clients in manufacturing

Thin Clients use less energy than normal PCs. This is an advantage for the supply chain, especially in logistics. From a business perspective, it’s beneficial as well as emits no carbon dioxide and electronic waste, which is good for our surrounding.

Development of new software to address green computing for internal use and potential sale to other organizations: sometimes some technologies are useful for the surrounding. For this purpose, nanotechnology is also useful to test it on the nanometer scale. To give greater access to technology and computing, the VIA is in the struggle to connect 1 billion people. For this reason, they are searching some technology beyond personal use which can help consume energy.

The operating cost is the cost of electricity for the data centers which should be managed. The structure is especially reducing the electricity cost, and this will automatically deduct the operating cost of power and coolers and save space as well. Consumption can be reduced in different low-cost ways.
