One of the star products of food all over the world is undoubtedly the tomato. It is ideal for sauces, salads, pizzas and lasagna; any recipe is valid to use tomatoes.
Today the tomato can be found in practically every corner of the world, but do you know its origin? The tomato originated in Latin America, specifically in the Andes Mountains. For hundreds of years it was cultivated by the Aztecs. And it was in the 16th century, with the conquest of America when the tomato reached the hands of the Spaniards, who took it to the Iberian Peninsula. It is then when this precious product, until then unknown, began to become popular and spread to other countries.
Tomatoes provide multiple benefits and properties for the organism. Its beautiful and striking red color is due to the fact that it contains lycopene, an antioxidant substance that has a protective effect against a large number of heart problems, mainly due to its iron and vitamin K content. It has an important mineral content, including potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium, among many others. Among the many benefits of tomatoes we can count on the fact that they improve vision, thanks to their vitamin A content, tomatoes are an effective fruit to protect the health of vision and prevent the onset of degenerative diseases or night blindness. Eating tomatoes reduces the risk of stroke, the lycopene contained in this superfood has proven to be a great ally for the prevention of stroke or ictus, all thanks to the antioxidant properties of tomatoes. Lycopene is present in both raw and cooked tomatoes, so there is no inconvenience in introducing it as we like in our diet. Among other benefits we have that it protects the health of the intestine, reduces hypertension, benefits the health of the skin, favors the elimination of toxins.
Tomato is an ideal food to incorporate in diets aimed at losing weight, since it provides only 22 calories per 100 grams. It is another of the reasons that mark the healthy levels of this precious fruit, this makes that it can be consumed daily and taken in different ways.
There are so many ways to cook it that it is impossible to get tired of consuming this delicious product. Here are some recipes I suggest:
Salad. This is the most common and simple way to consume tomatoes. You can make it by combining tomato with onion, lettuce, corn, avocado, celery. There are infinite combinations that you can make, you can even eat it alone.
Tomato sauce. It is an addition to many recipes, and it is good that you know that the sauce prepared at home has many more properties than the one bought in the supermarket. The homemade sauce is perfectly preserved in the refrigerator, so you can prepare a good amount and use it to make your favorite recipes such as pizzas, meatballs, pastas...
Stuffed tomatoes. Perfect for lunch or dinner in a healthy way. You can fill them with minced meat, tuna, chicken or rice and eat them raw or baked.
These are just a few examples of all the ways you can consume this superfood. It is impossible for me to list all the ways given its versatility, but what is clear is that tomatoes are a superfood available to everyone.
Do not hesitate to incorporate them into your diet, as long as you do not have any allergy or intolerance to the tomato
itself or to some of its components.
