Girondins was, a few years back, along with Borussia Dortmund, two teams that showed the World that you really don't need truck loads of money to be a team capable of the biggest achievements, they did what only teams with huge budgets were able to do. But after a few years things changed, Dortmund was not able to capitalize on the huge amount of talent it was able to amass with a low budget because the German giant Bayern Munich has gone on to win the German League ten times in a row, but Dortmund has been second place most of the time, not a small feat.
Girondins on the other hand failed to live up to the couple of years it was in the lime light, it kept lowering its quality and hence its expectations, each year going lower in the table until at last in this past season they were relegated to the French second division. And then because of their distressing financial situation they have been further relegated to a dismal place in the third division.
I guess Girondins fans must be heart broken, after having a Champion they have fallen so low. Mostly I assume, due to bad management, financially the club was driven nearly to bankruptcy and is in severe problems, of course the ones who are in trouble are the administrative group, the team itself will live on and probably some corporation or rich individual or group of individuals will eventually take over and try to fix things up, think Rangers in Scotland.
Still it is sad to see such a good team in such a bad situation, for me it is especially sad as a compatriot of mine was playing there, Alberth Ellis, he scored a few goals but that didn't help out much. I think he is not staying there, in fact I think the team should just start over with new players and work their way up. I do hope they are able to do this.
