Villareal became UEFA Europa League champions yesterday (this is their first trophy ever), after defeating Manchester United 11-10 in a penalty shootout. David de Gea, the Manchester United goalkeeper was the only player who missed his penalty which gave Villareal the title.

I am a Liverpool fan and have never liked Manchester United much, yesterday I was rooting for Villareal but frankly I did not give them much of a chance of winning. In Manchester United they were facing a monster, a team with an incredible history, with a multiple times larger budget and with, in name at least, a better roster.

And it started out that way it seemed Manchester would win this just by the way both teams were playing, but in one of those silly moments of football a free kick was given to Villareal over a dumb foul made by Cavanni and very poor defending allowed Moreno to score tha Villareal opener. After this the first half was dull and uninspired with Manchester looking for a goal but without any quality.

The second half started with Villareal trying to do some damage but it came back to Manchester United again having the ball and creating no chances, until a Villareal defensive mistake had Cavanni scoring the draw. After this the rest of the game including over time was dull with just the ocassional and very sporadic attack by either team. This led to the penalty shoot out and Villareal's win.

Now, Manchester United are the big team here they should have shown the difference, yet during the 120 minutes they kept repeating all their moves and the only substitutions made were to send in their better penalty shooters, De Gea has an awful record as a penalty stopper and yet he was kept on, he should have been substituted a couple of minutes before the end.

So, to me depsite all the talk given about Emery's genius, he did not do much to win this cup he just fielded the best he had, which actually isn't much and most of this Manchester United loss rests on Solskjaer's shoulders, he is just not fit to be Manchester Uniteds head coach.

As for the goal Rashford missed, Fernandez was offside when he passed the ball so even if Rashford had scored it would not have counted. Rashford is another example of Solksjaer's limitations, apparently he has been playing injured for months, shouldn't he have been recuperating instead of having to play every game?
