19 April 1957, Chelsea set an English record by becoming the first team in the world to travel by plane for a domestic away match.

The club saw the option to take a flight as the best and very necessary one, not that they are busting of how much money they had at that time.

They were to play two matches in three days. First they have an away match against Newcastle at St James park which is just over two hundred and eighty miles (280miles) away from Standford bridge. The next is a home game against Everton in Standford bridge.

Time was more important than the money the had at that particular time, and they also consider the stress their player will pass through if they traveled through bus.

So they chartered a flight to Newcastle and back to London.

The plan worked as they expected, the blues played that day against Newcastle, at St James park, and they won that match, and upon their return back home to host Everton the next 2days, they disseminated Everton 5-1
