MINI CHALLENGE #17 - What qualities would you like to see in a center back? by @sumanthp

Hello everyone ! I would like to thank @worldoffootball for hosting these daily mini challenges. I am enjoying very much much sharing as well reading others opinions.

I would like to see CB having following qualities :

High Stamina, Quick Anticipation and Interception
As fundamental quality would be stamina because you would be expected to play full time and should conserve as possible. CB should quickly anticipate to any situation to avoid any incoming attack threats. Intercepting their flow of passing or through balls can break opposing team's momentum that can create goal scoring opportunities. It may also create frustration to the opposing team as they cannot make any successful pass or through balls.
Tackles / Slide Tackles
I think this is fundamental attributes that Center back needs to have. Tackling and slide tackles at right time can be crucial to avoid any goals. Because If it goes wrong then attacker may pass you or lead to foul too.

Aerial Ball Handle
Center back should be able to clear any aerial balls from the danger . Also player should be able to score with header too. We can see many games CB sealing the victory with crucial header during corners or freekicks. That could also opens a gate to scoring goals.

Offside Traps
Centre Back should try to play offside trap as possible whenever needed or advised. CB should constantly check and suggest defenders to maintain the offside line and be aware of any mistakes.

Smart Play
CB should make timely accurate decision under any kinds of situation. Like when to play and pass around the defenders, midfielders and long / diagonal passes to forwards and clear the ball when in tough situation or be calm in those situation and make your way through it. Be always aware of the pressure by opposing players . We can see so funny mistakes like giving ball away to opposing team in process of giving back pass resulting in conceding goals. CB should also communicate constantly with other defenders too.
Look Ahead
After doing defensing duty CB should also look ahead to open any counter attacks possibilities or try to create any chances for midfielders that would result any break through for the team. I mean to say is he needs to be prepared defensively as well as offensively as situation demands.
