Are trophies and goals the ideal way of knowing the value of a player?

In the world of football, players are usually ranked based on the number of goals or trophies the person has managed to accumulate within his career. Is this the best way of ranking them? Share your thoughts.

I will want to answer these question in two folds,

The first been the trophy aspects. My answer to the question is no because trophy is not won by only one player. If the question wans individual trophies it would have been different. But in general trophies are won collectively, i there think is a no.

For the second part I think it is a yes, that goals should be the ideal way of valuing a player. Unlike what some of my contestants will say it varies on their position i think it does not. This is because strikers are expected to score goals, defenders are expected to defend goals and us usual keepers are expected to prevent the goal. It is therefore the number of goals you have scored that determines the price of a striker, those conceded determines the price of keepers and defenders.

Again the question was not talking about scoring goals but rather goals in general. Therefore conceding and scoring has to be factored.

Nicely explained. Thanks for the input..

Always a pleasure

The scope definitely needs to be widened. Thank you.

The idea of using goals to place value on a player worth is new and wrong at the same time. Football is a team sport and not a one man game. In the game of football, everyone plays his/her part in achieving the overall aim of the club which is winning a match, tournament or trophies.

That is not to say, that recognition of special talent(s) or individual skill should not be kept under the carpet. I suggest that it should be measured in categories.

For example, awards for best players should be given to a particular position annually. There should be a Balon d Or for goal keepers, defenders, midfielders, wingers and strikers. It will balance the equation.

Certainly, thank you.

Thanks also for visiting my blog.

I say it all falls down to the role of the player. You can't expect a goalkeeper to score goals but his field is keeping clean sheets. Trophies are merited by the collective work of all and should not be used in player ratings.

Values should be meted on how well them plsy their assigned positions

Correct.

Saludos...

A brief response is required in the comment section. But you can go ahead and use the idea for a separate post.
