I think we all have a bullet list with dreams that we wanna achieve in certain periods of our life. I too have a lengthy bullet list. Not all are achievements. Some are as simple as knitting a blanket, buying another pair of boots, eating my fav ice cream weekly…. List goes on and on with little things like that. Then and there in that list, certain things that I am so serious and dedicated, pops up. I achieved one of those things recently that I worked so hard for years.
I did athletics as a hobby. I never wanted to make it my profession, but I continued it for more than a decade out of habit. Ever since I was having university in my mind I wanted to get university colours for track and field. My second target was a step ahead that which was to get Sri Lanka University Sports colours. I’ll explain the difference of those two first. University colours is awarded by the university that the sportsperson is reading for his/ her degree. Meanwhile Sri Lanka University Sports colours or SLUSA colours are awarded by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association for selected sportspeople from all the state universities in Sri Lanka. I had my eyes for SLUSA colurs for too long, but no university games were conducted in my first two years in uni due to covid. So I got my first chance in my 3rd year and I was lucky enough to receive SLUSA colurs for my performance in my first Inter University Games.
We had the colour awarding ceremony on 10th of May and I was really looking forward for that since it was a dream coming true. Our dress code was a saree with a blazer. I did my down dressing and make up as usual and went to the uni with the blazer in my hand. I felt really proud to wear the university crest with track and field name on it and receive the SLUSA crest.

Working for dreams is really hard. It takes lots of effort, dedication and sacrifices. But when we did achieve them, all of those hardwork feel rewarding and worthy. I was happy this whole week just thinking of this dream coming true and I’m sure this happiness will continue all throughout my life because this means a lot to me.
