Secret Santa

I hope all may already know about this game. It is Secret Santa. Nowadays, most of the companies are used to do this game in the Christmas season. So, in our office also. In 2022, I have organized this game for our team. In last year also I got the chance to organize this event in our new team. So, this is how it went.

Since most of people in IT companies are working online in their home. We call this concept work from home. Normally this kind of game is prepared physically. But we have to organize this online.

If someone does not have an idea about this game, I will briefly tell you what happens in this game. Everyone in the team will have a chance to become a Santa to his one of team members. People are used to chit method or choosing number method to find out their gift receivers. Then in the same chit, members can share their wish list. Santa can buy a gift for his gift receiver according to the wish list.

So, when playing this kind of game physically it is very easier to organize this event. But when doing this online there are some points to think about. The first one is how can we choose members and share the wish list. As a solution for that we have decided the number selection method. We have shared an excel sheet and mentioned numbers. Then the team members can select a number and mark it as selected to avoid selecting that number by another member. Afterwards, we have shared a google forum to submit the selected numbers and their wish list. So, as the organizing team I’m the person who can see all the selection. Then I shared them separate mail to the relevant Santa by mentioning the wish list and gift receiver’s name.

We have given three chances to each member to guess this. If that member is unable to guess then that chance goes to other members. Believe me this is really fun. Everyone is really surprised by their gift and guessing their Santa’s name. And also, this became really happy time for everyone before starting the new year. If you have not still participated this event before try to organize in your office teams or between your friends in the next time.
