Vesak Day Celebration | 5% for SL- Charity

Vesak day is a very important day in every Buddhist life. As a Buddhist I also celebrate Vesak day. Actually, vest day is not a fancy day. In point my of view, it is a day that remind all of as to think about what we have done so far. It is a day to remind all of us that we will do in the future for a better life. It is a day to remind all of us about the uncertainty of our life. And this should not limited to only that day. As a Buddhist we should remind this during our whole life.

In our childhood we celebrate Vesak day by making Vesak Lanterns and sharing Vesak Cards. Eldering people make foods for the animals and this called in my area as “ Balu Kaputu Danaya”. People go the temple and participate religious activities, organize Dansala, making Vesak Thoran. Likewise so many things are done in these days.

Since 2019, we were unable to celebrate Vesak day due to some country situation. This time it is also happen. We can’t go to the temples. We can’t organize Dansala. We can’t do other religious things gathering with people. But as a Buddhist our heart says however celebrate this. There are different ways to celebrate Vesak day though we have to stay in our home. We can prepare Vesak Lanterns, listen religious programs which are telecast on the TV and Radio.

As I believe, If we can think a good little thought about others on that day it is better than doing fancy things more and more. There is hidden meaning of making Vesak Lanterns. We prepare them with lot of effort. We cut bamboo trees, we make frames, then we combine them after that we cover it with different different papers. Then we hang it some suitable place. Then day by day its beauty getting destroy. Colour of the papers are reduce day by day. Bamboo frames getting weaker and weaker and finally it destroys. This incident is similar to our life. We do different different thing to get beaty to our body, We do different different things to earn money. We try to live in more comfortably. But at the finally we all have to die. The beauty we get with lot of difficulties is destroy. The earned money destroy in one day. All these things have the uncertainty. It is also valid for our life.

With the understanding of this, I have joined to my brother and sister to prepare Vesak Lanterns. Though these days are very busy days, I gave little support to them to create them. I wish all of us can celebrate Vesak day in next time as we do in before and I wish these difficult situation for the whole world is affected may reduce day by day.
