A baby boy or a girl?

Three months ago, my son informed the wonderful news that I was going to be a grandmother. They chose to keep the baby's gender a surprise, even after three scans, my daughter-in-law always declined to know. My son shared the same sentiment. Despite their decision, I had a feeling it was a boy.

Recently, a friend of my daughter-in-law, who lives in Malaysia, visited Sri Lanka. This friend asked my daughter-in-law to send the doctor's gender report to her in a sealed envelope, promising to send a cake with the gender reveal inside. My daughter-in-law agreed and sent the envelope without looking.

Both my son and daughter-in-law expressed that they were happy with any gender. When I asked about preparing for the baby, they said they planned to buy everything in purple.

Yesterday, the much-anticipated cake arrived, adorned with pink and blue icing flowers on a white background. The color inside would reveal the baby's gender, but no one knew what it was until the cake was cut.

We all gathered around the table last evening, connecting with her parents and brother's family via video call. I confidently predicted it was a boy, and everyone eagerly awaited the reveal.

As my son and daughter-in-law cut the cake, it revealed a blue interior. My son raised his hands in delight, and my daughter-in-law burst into happy tears. Her parents and brother's family clapped and cheered, while I hugged her and wished her the best.

Her friend from Malaysia also joined us on the video call. We all enjoyed the cake in a joyful atmosphere, and I felt a special thrill knowing my guess had been right. It was a truly happy day for our family.
