Sago Porridge

You all know health is our wealth, therefore, I used to add some special porridge, such as herbal porridge or sago porridge for our meal. Yesterday, I prepared sago porridge for us to drink at about 10.00 a.m.

I can remember after having kids, my mother gave me variety of porridge. According to her, it helps to regain my strength as well to get good nourish.

It is true that it has lot of carbohydrate, but it is a very good meal to start the day. Sago is a delicious food that help to our body cool. As it can be purchased at any shop, it is not a difficult thing to prepare and drink once in week or two.

Some countries make them in different ways. Today, I am going to share with you one way it prepare in my country Sri Lanka.

Ingredients

• Sago - 50g
• Sugar – 200g
• Thick coconut milk – 2 cups
• Sault – ½ tsp
• Ground cardamom – 4
• Water – 2 cups
• Chopped cashew & Plums (optional)

Method

First, wash the sago and set it aside to drain the water. Then boil water in a pan and salt into this. Then, add washed sago into the water. It is necessary to stir continuously from the time the sago is added. Otherwise, it will stick together and form lumps. Sago becomes translucent when cooked thoroughly. When it's done, add the coconut milk. Then add sugar, instead of sugar you can add jaggery too. Then it will get brown color. If you want, you can add sugar after cooking it. That is left to you. When the sugar has dissolved, add the ground cardamom. Later, add the chopped cashews and plums. Remember to remove it from the stove before it thickens. Serve it hot because it thickens when it cools.
