MY JOURNEY TO MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK.

Murchison Falls national Park, also known as Kabalega national Park was named so by sir Samuel Baker after the geologist Roderick Murchison, the president of the royal geographical society.

Murchison Falls is found between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert on the Victoria Nile. It has the most powerful falls in the world and it's one of the most visited National parks in Uganda. It is also a home to an abundance of wildlife. There are various large mammals to be seen like elephants, lions and leopards.

So one time I made up my mind to go and visit the Murchison Falls national Park. I woke up with the team I was to move with and off we left. Our main aim was to see these powerful falls which are always talked about by people who visit the park.

We drove via Masindi District to Para where the falls are located. Arriving at the entrance we were made to make some payments before entering the park. East African adult citizens paid 20,000 Ugandan shillings(Ugx) while children paid 5,000 Ugandan shillings(Ugx). We inquired for the amount foreigners pay and we were told that they pay $40 and that amount lasts for 24 hours.

Since the park has animals along the way, we were given a speed limit of 40km/ hr. Violation of that speed limit would call for a given fine. We moved through the park and on our way we met different species of animals. One animal I will never forget is an elephant. When the elephant appeared, everyone in our car started shouting out of excitement. Little did we know that elephants don't like noise!

The elephant made an attack on us, we were lucky that we had an experienced driver and he knew what to do. He drove back reverse until the elephant gave up on coming after us. It's at this point I realized that indeed an elephant is a big animal. If it had caught up with us, it would have just stepped on our car and all of us would be lifeless.

After the elephant attack, we humbly and quietly moved through the park heading to the falls. All the excitement and video recordings stopped.

We made it to the check point and guess what, we had violated the speed limit and were made to pay the set fine. The trip got more boring untill we made it to the powerful falls. We started hearing the water flow and pump a kilometre away. We forgot about all the hardships we had met on the way and we were all excited about reaching the falls.

On arrival we started feeling the trembling of the ground caused by the powerful water falls. We reached the fall and all we could see was the beautiful nature and view of the waterfalls. The water was pumping at a very fast speed in that some times we would get covered by water droplets coming from the falls. We really had a good time there and I encourage all of you to find time and visit these powerful waterfalls.
