Hello everyone am happy to come up with a new write up in this platform. Previously, I have been writing on online banking system which I concluded on my last post and today I have another interesting topic to write on which is : ** Skill Acquisition**. I want to thank @xkool24 and @hisgeneral for their contributions.

What is the Meaning of Skill Acquisition

When we talk about skill acquisition, we talk about acquiring a skill.

Skill on its own is the ability or the capacity of someone to do something well. It is a technical knowledge possess by an individual to carry out a task or specific function with perfection or excellently.

Skills can be learned or acquired and this leads us to the types of skills.

Types/Forms of Skill

There are three major forms or types of skill and they are:

• Special Skills
• Administrative Skills
• Utilitarian Skills

Special Skills

Special skills can also be called Hard Skills. This type of skill involves technical knowledge or expertise in a particular field. This type of skill is a teachable skill which can be acquired in the four walls of a school or an institution through training. Those who acquire this type of skill are professionals. That is to say that they are experts in a particular area.
When you possess this skill, you only specializes in that area and may know little or nothing in other areas. For instance a medical doctor who specialises in gynecology cannot be good with electrical or electronics engineering.

It is a type of skill that is applicable to work, profession as well a occupation.
Examples of these skills include but not limited to:

• Accountancy
• Engineering
• Estate Management
• Biochemistry
• Microbiology etc.

Administrative Skill

The administrative skills can otherwise be calledthe soft skills. This type of skill is gotten from special learning programmes in knowing how to relate with your working environment, people around you and your work itself. Such skills include but are not limited to:

• Communication skill
• Customer relation
• Discipline
• Reliability
• Leadership
• Conflict settlement etc.

Possessions of two or more of these skills helps you to be successful with your special skills. These skills doesn't involve specialty because they can be useful in all area and aspects. This type of skill can also be called person's or personal skills.

Utilitarian Skill
Utilitarian Skill is a type of skill that are inherited from birth. In other words, they are talents that one posseses that distinguishes the person from another. These skills/talents are developed in other to be useful and beneficial.

The Utilitarian Skill can as well be called the function skill. Examples of such skills include but not limited to:

• Adaptability
• Problem solving ability
• Behavioural skill
• Time management etc.
  The combination of these three forms of skills makes one unique and unexceptional.

Skill Acquisition is the process of acquiring and mastering a particular skill in order to serve the purpose of empowerment.
Skill acquisition is the ability of someone to learn set of skills which can be applied in everyday activities.

Some skills acquisition include:

• Technology skill acquisition
• Agricultural skill acquisition
• Electronic skill acquisition
• Creativity skill acquisition
• Business skill acquisition
• Domesticated skill acquisition

Technology Skill Acquisition

These type of skill acquisition is the acquisition and mastering of technical skills such as:

• Plumbing: Plumbing is the construction of pipes, sewage system in a building and everything relating to water and water supply in a building.

• Aluminium/Metal Work: This is the constructions of metal fittings in a building construction.

• Electrical Constructions: this is a type of technical skill that involves electrical constructions like wiring etc.

Agricultural Skills Acquisition
These are skills acquired for the process of production of food for man and animals.
It is divided into two which are
1 Crop production
2 Animal production

• Crop Production: This is the growing of crop plants such as:

• Rice production
• Cassava production
• Oil palm production etc

• Animal Production: This is an agricultural practice which includes the rearing and growing of farm animals for food and supply of protein. Such include:

• Heliculture (Snail) farming
• Apiculture (Bee) farming
• Poultry (Birds) farming
• Livestock ( cattle, goat, sheep) farming etc.

Electronic Skill Acquisition
This type of skill is computer skills. That is, the knowledge on how to operate and control the computer system. And these computer skills include:

• Software installation
• Software operations
• Computer programming
• Computer repairs and maintenance

Creativity Skill Acquisition
Creativity Skill Acquisition is the type of skill that involves things one can make with hands. Such skills include:

• Moulding: this is the use of clay in moulding different articles. It can also be called pottery.

• Writing: This is a skill of having a good writing skill.

• Music Making: These are people who are skilled in composing music, singing and even dancing. They are instrumentalists that is, people who can play all kinds of musical instruments, etc.

Business Skill

These are people who have undergone business trainings and have acquired business skills such as:

• Marketing
• Accountancy
• Banking etc.

Domesticated Skill Acquisition

These skill acquisition are:

• Hairstylist: these are people who have acquired the skill of dressing the hair. They ensures that the hair are clean and neat at all times by using the magical powers of their hands to design and beautify the hair.

• Fashion Artist: These group of people re fashion designers. The possess artistic skills which enables them to cut and join fabrics in such a way that they appears pleasing and appealing to the eyes. They can design fabrics into different styles.

• Catering: These are another set of people who acquired artistic skills on how to cook and bake.

These are just few of domesticated skill. They are called domesticated skills because you do not need any degree or academic qualifications to practice it. But they are talents developed by specialist in that area.

Conclusion
Skill acquisition is a way or process of acquiring a skill, becoming an expert in what you do. This means that you give high quality service and become so wanted at what you do. It is being good at what you do and giving out your best as a specialist.

Skill acquisition is an investment and not an expense. When you acquire skills, you invest in yourself and future and it gives you the power to create wealth. Acquire a skill today, become an expert and broaden your career prospects in order to become financially responsible, stable and secure.
