What is something you want? How bad do you want it? Who do you aspire to be? Maybe you want to get promoted at your job or land a better one. Maybe you want to be your children's hero and favorite person, or build a family.
Charlie Munger has a simple principle that will bring you closer to achieving your goals, but I before I tell you what it is, I'll tell how you'll probably react to it. You'll either laugh at it and perhaps even at me because it will make absolutely no sense to you, or you'll take it to heart and use it to progress in life.
Charlie Munger, is Warren Buffet's partner and best friend, he accompanied him for over 60 years, he's a world-class investor and a philanthropist who could've been easily as rich as Warren Buffett but he chose to donate most of his money. He passed away on 28th of November, 2023.
Charlie said: "the best way to get what you want in life is to deserve what you want. How can it be otherwise? It's not crazy enough that the world is looking for a lot of undeserving people to reward."
Sounds reasonable to me, how many times did you wish for things you didn't deserve? Like you wanted to get promoted when many of your colleagues were more deserving of the promotion. The world only rewards deserving people.
Maybe you wanted to be your children's favorite person when you did very little to deserve that place in their hearts.
After this hearing this quote, I started asking myself two questions: the first one is: "How many of my dreams and goals do I deserve?"
The second: "how can I deserve them?"
When you deserve something you automatically get it.
I'm not trying to make you think you don't deserve to have what you dream of, I'm trying to make it clear that if you don't deserve something you'll never get it.
I myself would love to be one of the best writers who ever existed, still I don't deserve and that's why I'm not, but I'm on my way to deserve it.
I also want to become one of the best English teachers worldwide, and again it's the same case.
Every successful person today has paid the price for his dreams; exerted effort, spent adequate time working, and did whatever it took them to succeed. So, if you think you'll get something you don't deserve you have the wrong idea about the world we live in.
Ask yourself: do I currently deserve to have what I want? If not, what can I do to deserve it?
