Exam week has officially started at KIET, which means that from morning to night it is all about studying. Sometimes, we’ve had two exams on the same day, but this time, luckily, the schedule is more manageable with only one exam per day.
When I was in my first semester, I thought university exams were a big deal and, like a typical newbie, I’d start preparing weeks in advance because I had no idea what to expect. I was stuck in the memorization habit we have had since school. But now that I’m in my sixth semester, I’ve realized it’s all about understanding concepts. If you understand something, you can easily answer questions about it.
So now, I don’t focus as much on detailed exam prep. Instead, I pay attention in class, get the concept, and rely on YouTube tutorials or good friends to help in the end, with a little group study to save us on exam day.
My exams started on Tuesday, and I also have work on my final year project (FYP), so I’m balancing that with my studies. I took a break from FYP work to start my exam prep on Monday, just one day before the first test.
After reviewing all the key points, we met up the next day for group study, where we help each other with any difficult topics. Group study truly feels like a lifesaver Our stats paper went well, and the next day (today), we had our Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) exam.
Honestly, it was all theory, which isn’t my favorite, and I hadn’t really prepared for it. I tried reviewing the slides, but they were so long (eight presentations, each 60 pages) that I got sleepy just looking at them.
Since I’d been awake for four days straight, balancing my FYP and exam prep, I decided to pick out the important parts, read them quickly, and get some sleep. Today, the exam was at 2:00 pm, so in the morning, we met again for a quick group study session.
After studying for about an hour before the exam, we went in and did our best and it actually went well, as expected! It’s a relief, but now I still have two more exams left. For now, I’ll just rest up and leave the last-minute study for the final two papers.
This is how my exam week has been going. After midterms, my schedule will get even busier, with exams and classes on the same day. Anyway, wish me luck that I can pull up my GPA this semester
