Back to Work.jpg

A couple of days ago, I posted about the administrative work that was coming ahead for my ensemble... lots of less interesting but very necessary stuff to get the ball rolling on my long-term plan... and I will need to do a bit of that throughout this week so that it doesn't just get put off!

However, this week... I'm back from the summer holidays, and I will need to start getting my fingers and brain back into shape for performances again. I feel stiff in the hands... but that is to be expected after a couple of weeks off!

Anyway, one of the more pressing things is a project that will start in a couple of weeks where I do need to have a few pieces on the viola d'amore to be up to scratch. Given that it is an instrument that is always passing in and out of use for me (and most people..), I tend to need a bit more lead up preparation for it than I would for the violin or the viola. Well, that is a bit of an understatement given that I tend to need very little preparation time for the two main instruments.

So, to start off with... a very easy little suite for the Viola d'amore to get the fingers and brain moving again, before starting on the trickier stuff. Now that I think about it, I also need to start getting a concerto under my hands for a couple of months ahead. Best to have these things on a rolling schedule of preparation rather than a last minute freak out!

Finally.... I have the year contracts starting to roll in now... which means that I will have to start dodging clashes and all of that sort of thing. Sigh... the glorious life of a freelancer... always trying to do everything, whilst annoying the least amount of people. It would be easier if groups worked together and co-ordinated a bit!

... actually, my wife tells me that we need to go out and help clean a sister-in-law's place before she moves out! Sigh... there go my plans!

Sigh... I guess I will just take solace in the fun parts of the work... learning and playing music, tuning the harpsichord... and I will get around to doing the crap administrative stuff later!
