We have a proud history of how our freedom fighters have sacrificed their life, how much effort they put to free the country. There were more than 3 lacks people directly involved in the freedom fight in 1971. However, currently, a total of 201,461 freedom fighters receive honorariums from the government.
The liberation army was named মুক্তিবাহিনী (Mukti Bahini). You can read this article to know more about Mukti Bahini and our freedom fight as well.
You will find hardly any family who doesn't have anyone who directly or indirectly involved in the war of freedom. And we are proud of that.
My father was just 12 in 1971, also my uncles were in very young age as they were younger than my Dad. But I had my Grandfather's cousin who was a freedom fighter. He was a front liner. We used to listen to all the real-life stories from him. He didn't take any training nor he has a dedicated weapon (he used to share Gun with others). But he was brave, he helped in signaling, in informing, and so on.
But they didn't give up after all those hardships.
That's why they called 'Fighter.'
We have many statues, memorials to honor the freedom fighters of Bangladesh. The photo I have shared is a huge statue representing the freedom fighters of Bangladesh. It's located at the University of Dhaka.
