INTRODUCTION

In life ,we've all faced our share of ups and downs, strengths and fears, good times and bad times, but regardless of how hard or easy these times may be we have the power to decide how they affect us. I just asked my friend what he thinks fear is and he jokingly said "
F-false E-evidence A- appearing R-real "
. In a way I agree with him, because the
Advanced English Dictionary
defines fear as:

"An emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight)".
And
"It also means to be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a possible or probable situation or event".

SOURCED FROM OFFLINE ADVANCED ENGLISH DICTIONARY

This is to say that fear is futuristic, what is being feared has not taken place yet but has already been anticipated to go wrong and by so ,the birth of anxiety. So it's actually false evidence appearing real

We humans are emotional beings and many at times we get scared of even the unknown. So I'm going to be sharing some of my fears in the past and how I overcame them ,coupled with what I learned from the experiences.

FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking is what no one is actually good at from the start,we learn and grow into it. Growing up as a child I was very shy,I had five over protective elder sisters and a mother who barely allowed me out doors. So I grew up not knowing how to express myself to my peers and in public at large, which made me retreat into an introvert. I was scared of speaking in public.

HOW I OVERCAME THE FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

During my teenage days I knew if I didn't break out of this bondage my life would be very difficult to live in,so I took some deliberate steps in overcoming public speaking. At the time,I was a member of a local church and in the teenage department, every Sunday they would give opportunities for teenagers to come give presentations in singing ,acting , testimonies, etc. Realising I had a wonderful singing voice,I decided to start by singing in public, after a while I was made the teenage music director (there I had to address my members:public speaking), I grew gradually into saying some few words before singing in front of the teenagers and the teachers and later on we were made to go sing in the big church and all these opportunities made me forget I was scared of addressing the public in the first place. My fear of speaking in public died a natural death because I was determined to take steps in making it so,but I believe a major Chunk of the boldness I received was immediately after I was baptized with the Holy Spirit in my teenage days.

FEAR OF DYING YOUNG WITHOUT ACHIEVING ANYTHING IN LIFE

I'm the only male child in my family, but it wasn't always like that. I had an elder brother who was killed because of his wayward lifestyle when I was still very young.

Growing up I was told I looked exactly like him and knowing how he lived his life and how he died got me really scared that I was going to end up like him. So I made a vow to never end up like him.

HOW I OVERCAME THIS FEAR

Defining how my life might turn out by someone else's mistakes in life was very exhausting,so what I did was to use him as a yard stick to measure what I won't do in my own life. Although we had so much in common I got to understand that
our abilities don't define us,it's what we choose to do with them that actually matters.
So I decided to carve out my own path and follow it through and now I have a clear picture of who I am and how how my future will be like, and I'm no longer scared of it,I actually can't wait to get there.

I only wished my brother could have chosen a different path in his life.

CONCLUSION

There were so many other things I've been scared of in my life, but the two I've discussed were the greatest so far.

One thing I've learned in these experiences is that life is simple and we should strive to keep it that way. The past is gone, the ability the past has in influencing our present and ruining our future is in our hands,we can either decide to allow it or refuse it. We have no control over the future,so the only time we can be sure of is the present,it's a gift.

I have learned to live my life one day at a time,I know the decisions I make now are what makes my tommorow,so I try my best to make the right ones and leave the rest to God.
