Instilling Descipline In A Child, How Is It Done In Your Locality

What is descipline?

In my understanding, discipline is a way of teaching and correcting in order to help him obey rules and to maintain a good behavior. Discipline often involves punishment to the wrongdoer, it is often aimed at making the person aware of his wrong and helping him to take the right steps in the future.

Another word that can be used for discipline is to Train. When someone is disciplined, it is part of training, training to obey rules and to learn how to be of good behavior. Discipline takes many forms today.

What forms does descipline take in your locality?

There are many forms of discipline in Nigeria. The most common form of discipline that our parents gave us is spanking. They will get their cane from where thy kept it if any of us misbehave and they give us a spank.

The following are the steps that my parents took to discipline us:

• Warning: Do not do that again, if you do I'll flog you 😀.

• Second warning: I thought I warned yo not to do that again, hmm! I'm warning you for the second time 🤣

• Action: I warned you several times but our have chosen to be stubborn, now my cane will teach you a lesson 😂

After the final action we will often cry due to the pain of the cane and we will be afraid to repeat that mistake again. Especially when my parents are not home 🙃.

This is also the form of discipline that many families in our locality give to their children. Though there are some who sit their children down to explain why the mistakes they made is very bad a d why they should not do it again.

What usually give rise to descipline in your locality?

The main thing that gives rise to discipline is disobedience or wrongdoing.
When a child steals, lies, or disobeys rules he is often punished by his parents.

How does the kids respond to discipline in your locality

Many respond favorably to the discipline giving by the parents, depending on each child, some if them takes time to understand the discipline,some need to grow before they start to reflect on the discipline they were given and to see that it was really good for them.

On the other hand there re also kids who are extremely disobedient and who rejects all forms of discipline given by the parents.

What do you think is the best form of discipline to be given to a child?

I think the child who is being disciplined should know the reason he is being disciplined. So if a parent explains the consequences if what the child did to him and warn him no to do it again, if the child is responsive person he will understand and refrain from doing the wrong thing.

Why is discipline important in a child's life?

Without discipline, a child will not be able to distinguish between right and wrong and he will not know which steps to follow. For this reason it is very important that every child is disciplined well.

Undisciplined children always end up as irresponsible adults, lacking respect for their elders and most of them end up in the streets.

What should be the right motive when discipline is given?

The right motive for discipline should always be to help a kid to become a better person in the future. Helping him to distinguish between right and wrong and becoming a good and responsible adult.

Conclusion

Discipline is very important for children today, parents have the responsibility of disciplining their children, while doing so they should bear in mind that their motive is to train them and not to make them suffer.
