Steemit Engagement Challenge S3-W1: My dreams in childhood by @afunkycares

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, hope we are doing great? It is yet another opportunity to partake in the new season, season 3 of the Steemit engagement challenge. With the first challenge by Steemkidss: "My dreams in Childhood", it is a good one to start.

This is an interesting topic for me. It brought me back to thinking about my childhood. Big thanks to admin ,@ngoenyi of #Steemkids for kicking off with this topic.

WHAT WERE THE DREAMS YOU HAD WHEN YOU WERE A KID

When I was a kid, I had a list of written dreams I wanted to achieve. They include who I wanted to become, the things I desire to have, the places I wish to visit. For the purpose of this contest, I'll share three of the dreams I had in my childhood.

Just like every other kids, when they ask us, "who do you want to become in future?" My response had always been, "I want to become a medical doctor in the future". From kids we learnt that doctors save lives.

This sole desire of saving lives and working in the hospital formed my dream of becoming one". As a kid, I didn't know much about other medical professions. It was just "doctors" that was the popular medical professional. Because of this passion , I desired in my heart to go for medicine & surgery in the university. And I have my mother's full support.

After three year attempts , meeting the cut off for both utme and post utme for three different universities, no admission came for medicine & surgery. I summoned courage to go for National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology on the third attempt. I did this so that the utme result won't be wasted the third time. Though the admission came quite easily, it wasn't my dream. I worked in the hospital laboratory as an Intern. Still hospital environment.

Well, the passion to care for lives still lies within. I took utme again. But this time, I had read about other medical professions. So I chose Nursing & Midwifery. I wrote the post utme and had above the cutoff mark. And I got the admission. I was very glad. At last, my passion will be fulfilled. My mum has been supporting me all through.

I'm currently a nursing & midwifery student. I'm on the path to achieving my passion. Though not a medical doctor, but still in the medical /health profession. And we work alongside with doctors. I even prefer nursing now. Nurses save lives too and cares for them. So for me, My first dream is becoming a reality.

MY DREAM CAREER IN ARTS

My Second dream is to become a renowned Visual Artist. This is an inborn skill for me. I am naturally gifted to draw and paint. I enjoy doing it. I draw a lot while growing up. My primary school teachers always admired my drawings in Fine Art classes. Most times, I got the highest marks . I just see it as fun.

I started brushing up on this gift when I got to SSS class with the training of the Arts teacher, even though I was a Science Student. I waited behind after school hours to do drawing and painting. Taught me from the basics. Since then the desire to work on my arts potentials and make something good from it , began to grew.

Though, I had to pause because of school, the desire is still much there. I didn't achieve this dream. I may still achieve it hopefully, when the time comes. Meanwhile, I still do some sketches for fun.☺️

MY DREAM VACATION

Finally ,my third dream but not the last, is to Travel round the world. I desire this a lot as a child. This was inspired from seeing beautiful places shown in movies. I became so enthusiastic about those places that I often dream about them in my sleep while I was a child . They include Paris, New York City(US), Las Vegas(US), England, Los Angeles (US), Spain, Rome and many others. I desire that one day, I will travel to these places for vacations. My favourite place is Paris. This dream hasnot been achieved. But I believe it will be achieved.

WHO SUPPORTED YOU IN THAT DREAMS.

My mother is the one supporting me in my dream of becoming a medical professional, nursing/midwifery precisely. I also get some support from my brothers and sister.

For my career pursuit in arts, I had the support of my Arts Trainer who was the school Arts teacher. He taught me from the basics and was ready to tutor me to a significant stage where I can begin to monetize my arts skill. But I had to discontinue because I needed to further my studies. He was quite understanding and encouraged me not to give up on my arts dream regardless.

My dream vacations has been a childhood fantasy/dream I never shared with anyone. And as such, I didn't get support. My steemians are the first people am sharing this with😊.

WHICH ONE OF THOSE DREAMS HAVE YOU ACHIEVED.

I am already an the path to achieve my first dream of becoming a medical professional, precisely as a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

WHICH ONE DID YOU NOT ACHIEVE, WHAT DO YOU THINK WENT WRONG?

I didn't achieve the dream of becoming a renowned creative artist. Reason being that I had to suspend the art pursuit for my nursing career. Both requires good focus. I had to pause one for the other. When I achieve my RN, I can come back to my arts.

I also didn't achieve the dream of traveling to Paris or round the world. Attaining certain height in life and possessing the financial capacity is needed to bring this dream to reality. Nevertheless, I am still on the go. Am grateful for where I am and hopeful for where I want to be.

This has been a long time childhood fantasy & dream. God helping me, it will surely come true.

CONCLUSION

I am grateful that I am about to achieve my childhood dream profession. My mother has been of great support to me all the way through.

My dream career in art and my dream vacations haven't been be achieved. When the time is right for me, they will also be achieved.
