As a health practitioner, i love shearing tips about children especially those that needs special attention.

Sickle cell disease has been one of the sickness that deprive so many children from the joy they may have while growing up, but on the same note if well handled, those children becomes the happiest children in the family.

What is sickle cell disease

A group of disease that causes reduction of red blood cells in the body, this leads to what is called bone crisis because of lack of adequate vitamins in the body.

Causes of sickle cell disease

Sickle cell disease is hereditary, a child inherits it for a single cell gene change from the parents.

Tho to the deficiency of this kind of children, the easily get infected by bacteria,most at times they suffer from what is called bone crisis, sometimes they become anemic,sometimes they have swollen legs and hands because of all this they need extra care.

A mother can only be happy when her child is happy.
For an SCD child to be happy, it requires much love from the parents.

• Parents should reassure such child of the love they have for her, give them much water and fruits.
• Parents should meet up with the medical requirements, which includes regular medical check up, always given them their prescribed antibiotics and multivitamins, never allow them to break down before taking them to the hospital.
• No matter what, don't make them look inferior or less important because of their condition.
  Truth be told, when SCD children are well taken care of, they are bound to be better people and leaders of tomorrow.
• Fight for their rights especially in school among their school mates.

When you follow the above mentioned steps trust me you will feel happy and fulfilled, you will also have a healthy child.

This big challenge is avoidable but only before marriage, that is why it is encouraging to run a medical check up before getting married to each other.
To have a child that needs special attention, is a difficult task for parents, but they will be rewarded with great blessings if they meet up with such task.
