Update #95: Writing Expedition ✍️, Friday: Diarygames

Hello friends...

Today is the fifth day of this contest and am going to present my entry in one of the fifth day topic which is a diary game (26-01-2025).

Early hour, I woke up to thank God for his divine Grace to see the last Sunday in January 2025. It's can only be him and him alone. I grab my knife after the morning prayer and begin to peel cassava.

Looking at the pictures, the cassava has tidy bodies. This is not the normal time to harvest the cassava but due to what my eyes sees yesterday, it still seems as a dream to me. I went to my farm to take away the last weed from the cassava before rains start, only to meet my farm empty.

The whole farm was harvested by so called thieves, remaining a small portion. I had no option than to harvest the one the thief left. We know how difficult, hard and stressful to plant especially in this part of Nigeria were my locality is but all what I could get from my effort is for people to take where they didn't keep.

It's painful but what can I say. I don't blame them neither do I regret planting in the farm. And not only my farm, with other people's farms around there. After awhile, I pause the peeling, get myself ready and leave to attend church service.

Returning back from the church, I was very hungry and so I remove soup from the freeze warm and have my stomach fill up. After eating, I move to relax in the spot while continue peeling. With the help of my husband, I was able to be faster than before.

Today is Sunday, likely the grinding place may open till 7pm. I quickly wash the cassava, put in a basin with red oil. Am going to make Garri instead of fufu that's why red oil is included. The distance is a bit far from my residence and no bike nor Keke to take a drop direct to the place.

What we did was to use a wheelbarrow. This is a saver means than carrying on the head. My husband drive the cassava while I carry our kid. Reaching there, the owner of the place was not around so we have to wait for him. There, I see two grinding machine. One for cassava while one is used to grind other things.

As we were waiting for the man to come, my husband shift a bit to call the contact number in the bill board, my kid stands up from where he was seating, hold the wheelbarrow with full force and push himself forward as someone who can drive.

I couldn't hold myself than to laugh 😃 at this kid. He was so serious in his facial expression and I said to myself, what will I not see in kids, what an adult thinks is impossible for them to do, kids will not think so, they believe they can make it possible, that is why sometimes, they're do unbelievable.

Anyway, his courage has favor us. When the man finally came back, he asked us to take our cassava back that he has closed for the day. We pleaded with the man and he still insisted we go. Well, we went late but how can we preserve the cassava till tomorrow? Taking the cassava home, by tomorrow, the whole cassava will change to black color which will not good for Garri again.

We keep on thinking how we will go about as i look at my husband and he also looks at me too. When we come to conclusion to go back with the cassava, my kid move to the wheelbarrow and did the same thing. When this man see the kid with the funny behavior, he agree to grind the cassava for us.

We were so happy. The cassava was well grinded, then I put the red oil in the grinded cassava, mix it very well and scoop into the bag. When I was done, we paid for both grinding and pressing of water out and I was giving a number. With the number, my Garri will be release to me.

We return back home successful with Joy
