Weekly Contest: 21| Family Strengthen Daily Life Activities.

Many families have different activities they put in place in other to have a strong family bond, foster natural growth as well as strengthen relationship amongst family members. Some of these activities when neglected tend to have negative impacts on family relationships.

These might be simple activities like spending good time together, praying together, eating together, assisting with chores, having a family outing, engaging in sporting activities or even having a weekend hike.

Thanks to @uzma4882 for organizing this contest as this will help educate us on some aspects we've often neglected but are very vital to strengthening family relationships.

Kindly take a seat and relax as I take you through some daily life activities that has not only strengthened the bond in my family but also foster our growth.

1. Prayer: one aspect of life my parents don't joke with is prayers. Growing up with my parents, my dad has always made it a habit of gathering us every morning during weekdays by 5am to pray as a family. On weekends, we do gather by 6:30am for our morning devotion. This has had a great positive impact in our lives. Till date, I still wake up around same time to pray despite the fact I now stay alone.

2. Eating together: I so much love this culture of eating together as there is usually this unexplainable joy and feeling it comes with. I've noticed that the joy and happiness is always on a different level when eating together compared to when eating alone. Till date, anytime I travel home, I still eat in the same plate with my elder brother. The culture has been there since we were kids and this has in a greater way strengthen our communication and relationship.

3. Assisting in house chores: Despite the fact that in Africa, we have certain chores assigned and tagged to the female gender such as sweeping the compound, doing the dishes, fetching water and cooking food, we have never had such in my family. It's usually a matter of division of labour. We don't look at any role and say it's only meant for the female gender. Many atimes you'll either see me helping Mom in the kitchen, sweeping the compound or even fetching water from the stream. Assisting with such chores has never made me less of a man but rather gained more respect from families within my neighborhood.

4. Having good quality time: This is one aspect I missed so much about my Dad. My Dad is a historian. Most times when I'm home, I always enjoy his company because his never gets tired of gisting us about certain past events. Usually when all of us are home, we always have good gisting time in the evenings where he will tell us so many past events and even with the exact date and location. Funny enough, my Dad is not internet savvy but each time I go back to the internet to verify, it's always exaclty as he mentioned.

5. Outdoor adventures: The day we went out hiking on our ancestral hills, it was a beauty to behold. Though this happened several years ago, the memory is still fresh in my head like it was just yesterday. We saw a lot of historical landmarks like the first well that was dug, the first house that was built about hundreds years ago was still standing though a part of the build has collapsed. We saw the local farm tools they used years ago. The weather uphill was very cold. Atop the hill we could see distant cities.

6. Listening to music: All thanks to my dad, he has indeed initiated me to be a lover of reggae and country musics. At our leisure, we often listen to reggae musics from the legendary Bob Marley, Majeek Fashek, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy amongst others. My favorite country musician is Don Williams.
