Questions about "Juvenile Delinquency" by @madilyn02

in hive-139765 •  3 years ago  (edited)

I am not a member of Steemkids, but I support the efforts people make in this community. Recently @madilyn02 wrote about Juvenile Delinquency: Definition, Types, Causes and Consequences. It was a well-written article, but I missed giving her support on this earlier (how fleeting time is). I apologize for this oversight but perhaps, by making you a beneficiary of this post, you will get more than my two cents worth.

I can understand the frustrations that young people must feel when there are few job opportunities. Could this be a root cause of the delinquency you are describing?

The Canadian government has just released their latest funding for a few countries, mainly in Africa. It is just one project out of a number totalling over $1 billion this year. If you read them, most are directed to provide money for girls' education.

Do you think there is a big difference in opportunities for girls' education compared to boys?

What type of courses do girls take in school? Do girls take courses in hard skills to get them jobs as electricians, plumbers, or to work in construction?

I invite everyone to provide feedback on this topic

If there is resistance to girls getting an education from their parents, do you think a daily stipend to be paid to the students to attend classes, might change this?

Over the years, girls have been denied education because of one believe or the other although we still have some boys that are been denied that right too but the percent is on the high on the female side and I guess the funding are made available for more awareness and also to educate the parents.

Thank you for your response, @peachyladiva. I ask questions because I acknowledge my ignorance about the education environment in Nigeria. My perceptions are skewed because the only young lady from Nigeria I communicate with is @madilyn02, and it appears she has the full support of her family.

Promoting acceptance by the parents can be accomplished in a couple of ways. One way is that they can print pamphlets and conduct classes for the parents to attend. I am a proponent of an alternative method. Pay children to attend school.

By looking at the population pyramid for Nigeria, the country is going to see a worsening economic crisis unless the children now can all obtain a proper education (regardless of being female or male). Consider our position on Steemit.

Over the last seven days, @madilyn02 has been earning over $2.00 per day. If posting to steemit could be incorporated into classroom activities, the students could take real money home at the end of the week.

Peace & Love!

Yes definitely it is a not fear ,the opportunity would be same for girls and boys no gender difference important .

Hello
Do girls have the same access to education that boys do in Pakistan?

In Pakistan ,well yes but only in cities on the other hand ,our 70% of population lived in villages the educational systems is very bad ,they belong to agriculture/farmers so they never wanted to educate her self and the girls education rate is almost non ,due to fundal system they never like to go women/ girl out side for education .

Sometimes you have to educate the men before you can educate the women.

Very well said 👍👍

Thank you for this wonderful topic. In my country, just like @madilyn02 has pointed out, at least in my locality, girls have equal opportunity to Education. But the real problem is funds to complete it to the level that can help one to be meaningfully employed even though the employment opportunities are rare to get.

Here, education is just to be enlightened because most are aware that after education, there will be no employment. So if an employment opportunity is provided or at least is certain, then a lot of kids will be motivated to study irrespective of their gender.

But with steemit being incorporated into classroom activities, I think it can go a long way since they will earn as they learn.

But that idea is very hard for the school owners to adopt. They feel it will be a distraction to the kids. All efforts and attempts to help them understand has not really work out.

I think the real problem here is the harsh economic conditions we are facing. There is no money for most kids to continue their education to the level they want.

You can imagine the situation we are facing here.

@dwarrilow2002

You cannot imagine how much I appreciate when you correspond with me. I gain a much better understanding about Nigeria as consequence.

Many people want to come to Canada because of the opportunities it offers now, but never ask how Canada got to this state. One reason that Canada reached this point goes back over 100 years ago. Canada didn't build businesses, it built people.

In the early 1900s, average Canadians were poorer than average Nigerians are now. At the end of the summer, a large proportion of the population would climb on trains to go to the western farms to harvest grain. Starvation and freezing to death was not uncommon in the winters at that time.

Religion and morality was probably more important in Canada at that time then Nigeria today. When my father took my mother to the movies (almost 70 years ago), they were accompanied by a chaperone.

Another thing started in Canada early on was the formation of the "Women's Institute."

The movement was founded in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada, by Erland and Janet Lee with Adelaide Hoodless being the first speaker in 1897.
The WI movement began at Stoney Creek, Ontario in Canada in 1897 when Adelaide Hoodless addressed a meeting for the wives of members of the Farmers' Institute. WIs quickly spread throughout Ontario and Canada, with 130 branches launched by 1905 in Ontario alone, and the groups flourish in their home province today. As of 2013, the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) had more than 300 branches with more than 4,500 members.

Women would meet once per month and have guest speakers who talked about nutrition, healthcare (first aid) and other educational topics.

In rural communities, they had one room schools in Canada until the 1965. Until the 1950s these schools were taught by teachers with as little as a secondary school education. Once when girls who were @madilyn02's age graduated they were eligible to teach children at the primary level.

But that idea is very hard for the school owners to adopt.

I've never had much to do with primary schools but I have assisted a private college to become accredited here in Canada. If school owners are resistant, is it possible to start your own school? You are doing so with adults now. Perhaps offering after school classes might be an option. I used to own a couple of computer stores in the 1990s. In each of them, I had a room set up with usually ten computers. I offered computer classes for adults at each location.

Is it possible to offer Steemit classes for younger people?

Thank you so much for your response. It shows that you are really interested in developing the younger generation.

Is it possible to offer Steemit classes for younger people?

This is a nice suggestion. I wish I can do it. Meanwhile, in my small steemit office, I do encourage people to come for training which is free. But most of them complain of device. I can easily organize a free training classes for younger generation as much as my steemit office can carry.

But I will need to at least offer to get few devices for few young ones to start with. And also to recharge their data for the meantime. I will also need to publicize the training by way of media and other means. These will make this training look interesting and attractive for them. But right now, the resources is not handy.

Perhaps you could first review the a response I gave @madilyn02.

For the present, the classes can be scheduled in your office, as long as it doesn't interfere with your regular business. What would the cost be if another space was necessary?

What are the devices you use and how much do they cost?

If the devices are tablets, they could be owned by the school, and used by the students during classes (they would need to log in and out for the class).

If that is the case, how much would it cost to set up a network in the classroom avoiding the issue of individual data plans?

For the sake of convenience I am going to say that @madilyn02 would be the "teacher".

When I offered my classes (I sometimes had twenty students at a time), I never advertised. All of the students were word of mouth.

The courses do not need to be limited to Steemit. Perhaps @madilyn02's contemporaries would like to learn web page design. They could take the courses on W3Schools.

@madilyn02 would create tests that the students would respond to at the end of each session, and the payment schedule would be as I mentioned prevously.

If the class size was five, do you think that we could generate enough support for this project? Could eight sessions be run each day? That represents forty posts. After the seven day waiting period, could the school, exchange 1/2 of the earnings (so the students would qualify for #club5050) for cash (presumably $80.00 per day).

How much each student might earn, depends entirely on the support of the broader community. Maybe the students might earn $1.00 per post and the teacher earns $10.00 per post. Whether it is five students learning for eight hours of the day or forty students studying for one hour of the day, do you think the "Teacher" would be willing to do this?

Is this a venture you @ngoenyi, @madilyn02 and those around you might want to discuss? If we can make this work, I would be willing to invest dollars as seed capital into this project. Depending upon its success, I would like to think there would be a few people who would welcome me with open arms in Nigeria. On the other hand I might be met with flaming torches and pitchforks.

Thank you for your prompt response,

Yes, my office can be a start up vanue for now but it can only take 5 students at a time and for that, I will have to buy a generator set because the power supply is not steady and that can cost not less than 600 steem.

My office rent will end by October this year and as such, I plan to look for a bigger capacity space and to get such here, I will need not less than 2400 steem at the current price. Am saving up for it and I pray steem price keeps increasing to reduce the quantity of steem I will need to let go.

Then I will talk of the equipments to be used.

As for the device, I think getting 5 laptops will be fine since it will belong to the school and each student will log in and out for the moment. And for that, a good laptop can cost not less than 750 steem each.

Then the data can be shared. It is possible for them to make one or two publications daily before their daily hors end and that can earn them much too.

We still have other costs to care for. So it is capital intensive but with proper planning, it will go well.

Yes, @madilyn02 and her contemporaries can assist with it and they too can create publications.

I am optimistic that if this is started, we don't even need advertisement, students will come begging to join the class.

It will really go well but it is capital intensive

It is easier for me to transfer cash to you than Steem, because our Prime Minister is a ... let me say that he doesn't like cryptocurrencies. Give me a few days so I can see about buying more Steem. I think that it would benefit the Steem Community to see the transactions and the process of this. In other words, I am willing to provide capital backing.

If we could set aside the question of the new space for the present, our needs might need to change before October. However, we can use the 2400 Steem as part of the Break Even Analysis.

I would like to emphasize the educational aspect of this enterprise. If Steem crashes, I would feel better if the students walked away with an education. I used W3Schools as an example but there are lots of online courses on other subjects, if that is what they prefer.

Perhaps, I am wrong and I should focus on getting the fastest return on my investment. It is getting a little late. I should catch 90 minutes of sleep before I awaken. We can explore this further later on.

Wow 😲😲😲, this will be great! I have had a situation where my brother sent me cash directly from America using my Account details. If that will work then I can provide the details in discord.

Of course, for the meantime, my office space can surfice. We can start from there. It will make sense really to begin from there.

We will explore those options. We will get teachers who can help out but as steem crashing, it's not an option, the price can only go down just like other cryptos. And of course, the students will surely not regret anything but benefit themselves.

Alright the, till then, have a wonderful rest

Believe it or not, I haven't gone to sleep yet. I need to see about buying Cryptos again anyway.

Is it possible to itemize all the costs that you might anticipate it might be including insurance, additional security etc. It doesn't make sense to enter this undercapitalized.

I am hoping that I will be able to recoup my investment by the time you need to decide on where you will be renting your next office. If that is possible, I would reinvest in more computers. The new building could consequently require two classrooms with the necessary tables and chairs for the students.

It is too soon to speculate on this, but I was wondering if in the future, a building like this might be possible. I don't know anything about zoning laws there. If the four bedrooms are large enough for four classrooms, the students would have access to kitchen facilities. Perhaps a cooking course/home economics course might be included in the curriculum.

Now I am really going to bed.

Hello thank you my friend, David. I'm happy to read from you again.

For the question you raised, I'm not sure, but I can say that everyone should be given equal right to education. I haven't been denied of this either , and that is because my country now understands the value of girls education.
It's true that sometimes, the boys do much harder work than the girls but if everyone receives education, there will be better helping hands, the girls can do the ones they can do to assist the boys.

The focus on girls education you talk about may be due to the fact that the girls were denied of it before. This is all I can say, I hope it contributes a little to your questions.

I invite @ngoenyi, @patjewell, @goodybest, @eliany, @mariajruizb, @event-horizon, @frankingcol to this discussion

In South Africa we have a huge problem regarding education in general, no matter if you are male or female.
Education in the public schools are not on standard and if you want to give your child the best you have to pay for it. This saddens me! 🙁
On university level there is even a bigger problem, discrimination against the colour of your skin. And this makes me cross!! 😡

This sounds really intense, the part of prejudice for the skin color is saddening. I didn't know this was the situation there.

Here children also pay money for education, but there is no discrimination for skin color or any other thing. Just that the fees can get really expensive if standard education must be obtained.
Another challenge here is lack of job opportunities for students who graduate, I hear that government provide jobs for their citizen in other countries but here in Nigeria you have to fight to get a simple job. Because of this, most people get discouraged and even drop out of school

Same old story in South Africa... 9 million people without jobs of which 70% is youth.
How sad!

Dwelling on your response makes me echo your feelings. There can be no satisfactory solution there. Any Canadian government funding made available to South Africa would not be accessible for people with white skin.
Since December I have written posts with links to resources to immigrate to Canada. Refugee status is denied to White South Africans.

Hello friend, greetings! I'm curious about something here. Why do you say that Canadian government funds will not be accessible for White skin people in south Africa

It is the reality of numbers.

Around 42,000 of the 4.5 million white South Africans are thought to live in poverty, which equates to 0.9 per cent. But 63.2 percent of the country's 43 million black South Africans also live in poverty and around 37 per cent of 'coloureds' - people of mixed race.
Source

Even though aid should be accessible to all, there isn't enough money to reach everyone.

This is something I didn't think can happen, I guess I always thought that the blacks are treated worse

image.png
Return to Slum Britain

This picture was taken in England in the 1960s. At the time, three million people were living in poverty.

Poor living conditions allows to most people to live only to their 40s.

In the USA 20.5 million "white" people and 8.58 million "black" people live in poverty. It isn't that one group of people is treating another group worse (although there is a tribal thing going on in Africa). Poverty is a trap. If you have a bucket of crabs, you can leave it uncovered because the crabs cannot escape. Once one crab almost escapes, the rest pull it back. The lady who had her store robbed the other day is a good example. She was succeeding and thieves wanted what she had.

What makes me FURIOUS is those that graduate that cannot get jobs in South Africa, no matter the skin colour. We have over 400 new doctors who cannot jobs but South Africa will pay Cuban doctors to come work in our country! It just doesn't make sense.

There is a strange brain drain going on worldwide. If any of the four hundred are interested in coming Canada, here is a link to the Canadian Board that regulate doctors in Canada.

With regard to brain drain, I am the type of guy that if Canada ever exiled me to Antarctica, the average IQ of both places would rise.

Thank you for your reply @madilyn02. I expect you will be graduating from secondary school shortly. What will you do next? I mentioned to your aunt @ngoenyi that maybe Steemit classes could be offered to younger people. It would be an unusual school. The students get paid to attend. People who have completed the Cryptocurrency course can attest to that.

If a student learned for an hour, how much would that be worth? Would $0.10 or $0.20 per hour be a good reward? Presumably at the end of the hour, the student would create a post and then the teacher would give them a vote. How much does a teacher earn per hour in Nigeria ($0.64 per hour)? Could the teacher write a report for the performance of the students and receive $1.00 as an upvote from the school? At the end of the day, what would a reasonable earning be for the school? What would be the overhead be for the school: Rent, Utilities, Maintenance, etc.? Could an assembly of communities upvote a report from the school to earn it $50.00 daily?

This paradigm would certainly turn education upside down.

This is an amazing idea and I'm sure it will work out if we are able to do it. The funding is going to be a bit of a problem for my aunt now, I guess:)

After replying to your aunt last night, I actually ended up staying up and am just now getting to sleep. I am willing to invest in the project so your aunt can continue to build equity and not touch her Steem.

I have asked her to hold off deciding on a new rental space in her calculations. If I can recoup my initial investment before the decision time, I would like her to consider a location that could have a second classroom. I would reinvest the investment to buy more equipment.

A few weeks ago, you had mentioned that you were making decisions about your life. Have you decided what you wanted to do yet? Do you want to go into University?

Have a good night

The project is a nice one and it will be to everyone's benefit, we appreciate your support and proposal.

A few weeks ago, you had mentioned that you were making decisions about your life. Have you decided what you wanted to do yet? Do you want to go into University?

Yes, I plan to attend the university to study art. But I need to take the exams that will earn me admission into the school, the time for registration has passed and so I'll wait till next year. I also have other concerns as to whether I will ever get to the finish because of the payments involved.
Sometimes I wonder which direction to take.

In order to arrive at your destination, you need to know where you want to go.

I plan to attend the university to study art.

Just to clarify:

Is your plan to attend university?
Is your plan to study art?
Is your plan to become an artist?
Is your plan to become rich as an artist?
Is your plan to become rich?

All of those goals are equally valid and attainable. You can do exactly what you described but after studying art at university, does that mean you will end up working in a sign making shop or selling onions at the market? A cousin of mine graduated from an arts program and was an exceptional artist. He never made a living as an artist. He has spent the last 35 years selling goods at a flea market.

What do you really want to do?

My plan is to attend the university to study fine and applied art, which involves painting, graphic design and more. I believe there are job opportunities for this course I'm about to take. However my purpose of attending the university is not to get rich, there is no such thing.

Did you draw this?

How does what you do compare with this?
