My Favorite subject in school by @fathiafatawu

Ever since I was in basic school, I have always loved reading a lot of story books . I even registered myself at the Tamale central library which I still go to at my leisure time. As at then, both mathematics and English language were my best subjects in high school.

Whenever I closed from school, I would sneak away from my mom’s shop just to go to the library and experience the pleasure that comes with reading. Even till now, I still use my elder sister’s library at home who is a medical doctor.

When I got to junior high school, I was a bit shy to join the school’s debate and drama club. My friends tried pushing me to it but I just didn’t have the courage to stand and read in-front of an entire school.
Our English teacher who was the patron for the debate and drama club applied favoritism in class when he was teaching. He was a very good English teacher. He taught us well, just that he was too focused on his club members in class other than we those who weren’t.
I remember when we wrote our first mock examination. It is a trial exams conducted by the school before the main national exams.
I had the highest mark in mathematics. By then they had just changed a new headmaster and we were his first badge, so he needed to make sure we give him a good start records.
He called me into his office and congratulated me. He also told me he was the English teacher of his former school. He asked me a few questions to test my knowledge in English and gave me two essay questions from the west African school certificate examination council (WASCE) 2013 to go home and try my hands on them. He’d check it the following week’s Monday.
The following week,I submitted it to him. He made corrections ,comments and criticisms. He kept giving me more. It helped me a lot. I’m forever grateful to him. That was when I began to like English more than I liked Mathematics.

I was the only student in my school to acquire a grade A in English language, when we wrote our final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) . It was when I went for endorsement that my English teacher, pretended to know me more and started saying nice things to me.

When I moved to senior high school, we were asked to write a narrative essay about the day we will never forget. Each student was supposed to read it out loud in front of the whole class. We were a class of about 57. I was willing to tell the teacher that I left mine in the dormitory simply because I couldn’t stand in front of the class to read it out.

It was my turn to read. The class was quite and waiting to hear me. I began reading. Everything was flowing. Surprisedly my voice wasn’t breaking either. The teacher was so amazed about my essay. He took me to three other classes that he teaches English language and made me read it to them. He even gave me some money. Since then I became his best student.

The four months break after completing High school and waiting for results, I took the chance to apply for a job as a teacher in one elementary school in my neighborhood. Where I taught all subjects ( English, Mathematics, Science , Social Studies, I.C.T and R.M.E). With the exception of french language. I socialized with the kids in my class, they loved how I taught them.

With the short period I was there as a teacher, I was awarded best Teacher of that year.

I love to write a lot more than I like speaking to people.I write most of my creative stories in my NOTES app and other thoughts that I keep to myself. I also write my opinions about movies such as , To all the bright places, Money heist among others. I am more of a lone wolf, I don’t walk with a pack hence making me always writing. I created my own story book with A4 sheets, super glue and color pencils in my basic year days. I have shared some of my poems/ write ups on steemit as well and I am still preparing to share more
