## HOW CAN I BUILD SELF-ESTEEM IN MY KIDS##?

in hive-139765 •  2 years ago  (edited)

When children seem to feel good about themselves and when they don't, it can be fairly easy to tell. We frequently refer to the idea of feeling good about oneself as having self-esteem.

Children with high self-esteem:

Feel admired and accepted. Feel self-assured and proud of their accomplishments. Think highly of themselves. Have confidence in themselves

Children with low self-esteem are:

Self-critical and hard on themselves; feel that they are not as good as other children; focus more on their failures than their successes; lack confidence in their abilities.

Why Is Self-Esteem Important

Children who are confident in themselves are more willing to try new things. They are pleased with their abilities. Kids who feel self-assured can handle errors better. Even if they fail, it encourages kids to make another attempt.Children who have higher self-esteem perform better in their academic, personal, and social lives.

Children who lack self-confidence doubt their abilities. They might not participate if they feel like others won't accept them. They might allow others to mistreat them. They might struggle to advocate for themselves. They might easily give in to feelings of inadequacy. When they make an error, lose or fail, children with low self-esteem find it difficult to handle. They might not perform as well as they could as a result.

How Does Self-Esteem Grow?

Self-worth can develop as early as infancy. It gradually changes over time. All it takes for it to begin is for a child to feel secure, loved, and accepted. When a baby receives adoring attention and care, it can begin.
Babies can do some things on their own as they grow into toddlers and young children. When they can put their new skills to use, they feel good about themselves. When parents pay attention, let a child try, smile, and demonstrate pride, their self-esteem increases.

Children with healthy self esteem may experience this:

-Achieve a goal and learn new things in school
-Acquire skills in music, sports, art, cooking, and technology make friends and get along
-Practice their preferred pastimes
-Be kind, give, or assist.
-Receive compliments for their efforts
-Try their hardest, engage in activities they enjoy and are good at
-Feel included by others, and receive accolades or grades they can be proud of.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Children who feel confident in themselves and accepted for who they are feel capable and competent.
Kids' self-esteem may develop as they mature. Any chance for kids to try, do, and learn can help them grow in terms of self-worth.
