INTRODUCTION

An examination is a formal test of a person's knowledge about a particular thing which could be a course or subject. An examination is mostly prominent in a school setting. And it helps to evaluate how well a person knows something after being taught over time.
I have written loads of exams since from my nursery classes down to secondary school and to university level.
When one fails an exams, it means the person isn't proficient enough in a particular skill or subject.

How do you prepare for an examination?

Preparing for an examination is always a little bit tasking, depending on the kind of examination to be written. Throughout my primary and secondary school days, I only read the notes books and texts given by the teacher. But going to the university, I had to study more and make sure I have also gotten past questions on a particular course. I prepared for an examination by studying the sequence of questions in the previous past questions and then studying and making more research on the course. This helped me to scale through a lot of my examination.

Do you have any trick that you have developed over time that works perfectly for you?

The only trick I have had that works perfectly for me was always studying after each class and writing out possible questions for each topics. This will help me to prepare very well before the examination period. When it is examination period, I study past questions over a period of 4 years, then I get to read and study well.
It was a trick that was very proficient and profitable for me.

When is your favorite time to study for an examination and why?

I was always distracted in the afternoons by my siblings and parents since I was in secondary school, so I used to wait for everyone to sleep, so I could read. This turned to a habit and soon it was very impossible to read in the afternoons.
So I read more in the night because it is always less noisy and calm. This helps my brain to relax. And I used to read up to 6 hours without feeling sleepy. I got so okay with reading at night and it worked well for me.

Do you feel scared when going in for exams? How have you been able to control or fight this feeling?

I only got really scared when I wrote my aptitude test, I did study well, but I felt scared because I had thought the questions might come out too hard for me. Well it didn't, and from then on I try to motivate myself by speaking to myself not to get scared. Most times I don't get scared when I have read a particular subject very well. I feel I have studied everything there is to study, so I wasn't afraid of failure, which made me not to be scared.

What advice do you have to give to those who still find it difficult to prepare for an exam?

A lot of people usually wait till the period of the exams before preparing for an exams and that is totally wrong. An examination is a test for how good a person is in a subject or skill, so preparation should start from the very day the topics are taught in class.
Always get past questions, it will help to kill the anxiety of the kind of questions you will get to see during the examination.
Always read ahead of the class and study very well. That will help you to prepare well for an examination.

Hello @johnmitchel, thank you for your wonderful contest entry. You've shown us how you prepare for an examination and I hope others find this helpful too. For many, reading in a noisy place won't help as you said. Me personally, I love reading I noisy places. I came to discover that if I read In a quiet place, I won't get a sense of what I'm reading. Reading in noisy places help me understand what I'm reading better and I barely forget. 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing your entry with us.
