A woman was awoken out of a deep sleep by her mother's holler. Crawling out of bed, she fumbles to find her glasses and clicks her phone to see the time; 7:40. Sighing, the woman contemplates whether she can get away with a few minutes of rest before heading upstairs.

Instead she reminds herself that she is an adult and needs to get up, despite her lack of want.

Once upstairs the mother is seen bustling with energy, and gives a verbal list of orders for the woman to work on before grabbing her coffee and slamming the door behind her heading to work.

I woke up, went to the bathroom, washed my hands, checked email and found that someone on Quora asked, Can you write a short story about your day? I think I just did.

Being in your early 30's to me is a weird transitional phase where you go clothes shopping and find yourself going back and forth from the juniors and women's department. Deciding whether or not that cute graphic tee or semi formal blouse is deemed more appropriate to wear out to the bar. You go to the corner store to buy a bottle of moscato wine and the cashier hesitates for a split second as you watch his eyes in anticipation with your ID ready to show him. This can go a couple ways; a) you're flattered that you can still pass young enough to get carded, b) you feel relieved that he already knows you're well over 21, or c) you get carded anyway and he looks amazed you look so good for your age and questions in his mind if the ID is fake. Either way you go home with the present you bought yourself and the Chinese food you ordered for pick up because you know that Thursday nights are busy and you don't have the patience to wait as Tammy is juggling cooking orders and apologizing to a customer on the phone about their delivery being so late so she comps two free egg rolls to be in their good graces. At home you prepare your dinner and pour your glass of wine in a large plastic drinking cup because you refuse to buy proper wine glasses even though they're only $1 at Savers. You pop in Pretty Woman because who doesn't like a Hollywood fairy tell where a hooker gets rescued by a billionaire? The movie is a modern day Cinderella story! As you're watching the movie you feel satisfied with how great the chow mein tastes, then remember how you are supposed to be on a diet. You had a great workout that morning so that logic eases your guilt. Your plastic cup of wine is empty by now and you decide, fuck it and bring the whole bottle back. Your phone goes off and it's just an email. You remind yourself that you really need to change your notification sounds along with many other tasks you've put off like scheduling a dentist appointment and buying those vitamins you say you're going to start taking but justify a bag of potato chips and a few chocolate bars were what you needed more because you had a bad day at work. In that moment you realize that not buying those vitamins is like a metaphor for your life. You know the vitamins are good for you but you choose not to buy them because the commitment of taking something every day is too much of a struggle so you tell yourself, next time.

Meanwhile, at the same time, the door knocked. So, her husband walked to the other room to open the door.
