Greetings kids lovers, a special thank you to @ngoenyi for this contest because it has given me a chance to look back at my childhood and the dreams I had for my future.

What did you dream of having or becoming in future
While I was a kid, I had so many dreams about my future occupation but amongst them all, I always loved and wanted to be a doctor because my mother is one. By this time she was working at International Hospital Kampala. I always looked up to her and wanted to follow her footsteps. Whenever I was asked what I wanted to become, I would happily say I want to become a doctor. This always made my mother happy. We did not have a maid at home so my mother would take me with her to work everyday during my holidays. She had a personal room where I would be. She only used to let me out when I was going to ease my self . At times I got bored there and came out. She would at times give me her computer to enter some simple documents for her as she was busy. Her friends would come and play with me at times. At lunch, she would come for me and we go to the hospital restaurant and eat. I used to admire every thing about doctors. My mother even got me a doctor’s coat that I always wore on top of my clothese when I had just arrived.

After some time as I was growing up, my mother changed hospitals. She now started working in Joint Clinical Research Center. We now had a maid at home to look after me and my little brother. There was no need of mum taking me with her to the hospital during holidays anymore. I would be home and play with my little brother. There was an interesting skit we loved on tv, so we always mimicked the actor and actress. My brother would be the mother and I the son. We would pretend as though am sick so he would always pierce my bums with a broom stick acting as an injection. We always played together because we were not allowed to move out of the gate. As my brother was growing, he also started claiming he wants to be a doctor. We always argued about this but as I grew, I realized I now wanted to be a lawyer. So one day after church, I told my brother he can be the doctor then I wil be a lawyer.

This dream followed me up until I was mature. When I got done with my senior 4, my mother wanted me to take a science combination in my Alevel so that I can be a healthy worker but now my dreams had changed soo much. I refused and it took us some good days of arguing about what subjects I should taken on in my higher level of education. Though, I thank God I was able to take an arts combination. This was still looking at my dream of becoming a lawyer. I studied so hard and got above the required points to apply for Law at the university. Just as I was applying for courses at the university, my father came in and stopped me. He told me there are no jobs for lawyers unless you are experienced. I felt so bad that my dream was going and I couldn’t do anything because it’s my father who pays my fees and tuition. I had to apply for business courses and I am currently doing a Bachelor’s degree in finance. This wasn’t my dream but I learnt to go with it and I love it as well.

It is very good to have dreams and aspirations because it helps you realize what purpose you have in life. It helps you have a broad mind about careers and look at how you will achieve your dreams.

I would advise young kids to always have dreams about the future and also have role models that they look up so that they can live in that life style so as to have a clear path and focus on how to achieve their dreams.
