Introduction
Its always exciting to be a child, though there are some bad days, but generally, childhood is the best time in a lifetime.

How it all started
I lived with my parents and two sisters of whom I was older than one of them. We attended the same school and did things together. Since my mum was a teacher in the school we attended, it made things easier for me and because of that, I learnt extra stuffs that other school children wouldn't learn in time.
One day in my school, while I was in primary 3, a teacher told us to prepare for profession display the next day. It was a setting where all pupils will dress according to the profession of their choice. This arrangement made many children to realize and work towards the career they wanted to pursue. I always wanted to be a doctor.
When the day arrived, it was morning and we were dressing up for school. My mum being aware of the profession contest bought me a doctor's garment the previous day and a small fancy stethoscope with an eyeglass of my size. I wore it to school, looking very clean and professional.
The experience
That day, many of my classmates participated in the profession display contest and it was fun. Some dressed as Teachers, some dressed as Farmers, some dressed as engineers, some dressed as native doctors and that mad me laugh.
The principal of the school was fascinated about the whole thing because of the fact that the children and parents involved took it so serious. He then made an announcement that the three winners of the show with the highest votes will earn a two years scholarship in the school..
I was self confident. Finally after the parading, the recitations, dramas and displays, the result was announced. I came second, and funny enough, the guy on a native doctor's outfit cane first.
I was overwhelmed. My mum kept smiling because things were very difficult for my dad, especially in terms of catering for me and my siblings school fees. It was a dream come true. I knew what was going on because I was 10 years old
Lessons from the experience & conclusion
- Parents should support school activities of their kids. It will help boost the kids determination and hard work in school
- Engaging in all school activities as effectively as possible helps children to be up and doing. And it pays.
- It is good to start at a tender age to channel the attention of a child to a tangible career in order to keep them focused
- Till today, I am still pursuing that career, though I lost my Mum and Dad, and it has been a delay, but I'm hopeful that one day, I will wear that doctor's garment with a stethoscope on my neck. This highlights the lesson I learnt in being determined to achieve my goal.
- Finally, the most important lesson from that experience is that a child's good performance in school can yield good results for the parents and make things easier for them.
