Tom Brown is rich in nutrients as it contains the following :
Grains;

  • Corn, millet, guinea corn, soy beans, wheat.

Nuts;

  • Tiger nut, groundnut.

Fruit,

  • Date fruit.

Protein

  • Crayfish

Adding plantain is optional.

So I had earlier prepared my Soya beans. So in this post I will be walking you through how I got my grains ready. The grains I that I have at hand now are:

  1. Millet(2cups)
  2. Corn (1 cup)
  3. Soya beans (3 cups)
    Later in the day I'll be getting wheat, and tigernut from the market.

##How to prepare your Soybeans for tom brown.

STEP 1:

  • Pour the soya bean on a tray, remove stones and dirt by picking your soya bean.

STEP 2:

  • Wash the soya bean to remove dirt and dust.

STEP 3 :

  • Parboil your soya bean for 10 mins.

The reason for parboiling is to reduce the amount of phytic acid and trypsin inhibitors in the soya bean. These compounds kind of overshadow the nutrients (zinc, iron and calcium, protein etc. ) contained in soya beans thereby making those essential nutrients less available for absorption. So if you want your child to enjoy that protein soya beans make sure you Par Boil it.

STEP 4:

  • Sieve out the water, wash it like once. Then pour it on a tray and leave it to dry.
  • I dried mine under the sun. It took me like 2 days for it to be properly dried.

The soya beans are ready to be fried, my next ingredient is Millet.

How to prepare your millet for tom brown.

  • You follow the steps 1 & 2 above because the amount of stones I found this morning while cleaning the millet shocked me. I thought it was something I'd just blow off the chaff and wash it, that's all. So make sure to remove stones.

Step3 :

  • Since millets are really tiny grains the best way to blow off the chaff is to soak it inside water. You'll find the chaff at the top while your main grain sinks at the bottom.

Step4:

  • Wash the millet and spread on the tray and allow it to dry.

This is how I prepared my grains but I have to go to market to get the complete stuff that I will be needing.
